Can anyone tell me what input methods are available for Chinese (Simplified or Compex) for a T68i?

I am interested in getting my T68i (bought in Taipei with complex Chinese) updated to R8 series of FW. I am keen to be able to read both forms of Chinese and have a simple and quick Chinese input system available as backup. I can handle both pinyin and zhuyin but would prefer pinyin if it's no more complex than zhuyin in terms of no of key entries. I am not keen to learn other fancy input methods.

Any suggestions as to which language pack I should go for? Thanks.

The Taiwanese pack can use either stroke (wu bi) or bopomofo.

The Chinese pack uses stroke (wu bi) or pin yin.

Most people prefer to use pin yin. Even my Chinese girlfriend who actually knows how to use wu bi much prefers pin yin. She says it's much easier and quicker. I personally use pin yin, but have no clue whatsoever how to use wu bi since I can't write Chinese characters by hand.

Based on your message, I suggest you get the simplified Chinese language pack. I don't think you can get traditional characters and pin yin. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Thank you for the info. In my T68i, both simplified and complex Chinese characters are available in the "complex Chinese" firmare for display purposes, just that you can't enter simplified characters. Similarly, I would expect "simplified Chinese" firmware to also able to display complex Chinese characters eg. SMS messages.

As I have no ideas about WuBi either, and for comparison, is pinyin entry easy? Any smart assistance in the process? I guess I'll be able to get my phone flashed to "simplified Chinese" in Singapore when I visit there next.

The pin yin entry on the T68 is really great actually. It's predictive and very easy to use. If you already know how to use pin yin you will have no trouble with it.

It's actually better than the pin yin on the T610/T618, because on the T68 you can type several characters without confirming after each. For instance you could type "woaini" and then confirm, versus on the T610 you have to type "wo" then confirm, "ai" then confirm, "ni" then confirm.

You can bring the phone to any SE service point or center in Singapore, give them SGD$20.60 and they will flash it to newest FW and any language you want.

Thanks again for the info. I particularly like the idea of S$20 per flash.

I'll definitely ring ahead and book my phone in for the flash when I next travel through SG. I usually don't have more than 24 hours in the country and they better not stuff up.

i am thinking of getting my eng only T610 flashed to Taiwan chinese
(anyone in aust, melb know of shops i can go to? SE service centres here give me either cant, not avail, or go else where)

but i remember on my old T28SC edition i got from HK, i can input in all of those methods!
ping ying, bupomofo, stroke, with predictive text, english and can show both simplified and complex chinese characters...

is this possible with the T610 language pack? if so which one?

thanks

agnesx: The T610 can display both simplified and trad. chinese, but when it comes to entering text, you have to choose one. The Taiwan pack does bopomofo and wu bi input, and the chinese pack does pin yin and wu bi input.
