I have read on here about people who have had problems with vodafone software being put on their phones when they upgrade at the carphone warehouse at the Mall in bristol.

I have a different problem with them:

They couldnt work out how much to charge me for this service. One assistant said it was free, which is what I thought it should be. But then another assistant came over and said that they are now charging £20 for the upgrade. I told them it should be free, so they went off to get a manager, who came over and told me it would be £30!

Has anyone else been charged by them for a software upgrade? And can anyone confirm that it should be free under warranty?

thanks

All software upgrades are free for all phones, Nokia, Siemens, Samsung, SonyEricsson, during the first year of purchase ( I work in a phoneshop and am expected to know things like that....)

Very true, and CPW should do it for free, they've upgraded sw on my t68i and 8850 many times for free. Sounds like you just got an idiot of a manager.

Is this a recent thing, or has it always been the case?

Are there places the have authorised to perform said upgrades?

@ exodus

If CPW are not auth to do upgrade SE software, then surely SE would have put a stop to it as they have been doing it for well over 18 months now. Also Orange have been giving CPW software for upgrades for that long (dont you think the SE would have stopped orange suppling CPW with said software, if not auth)

How come I've recently had my P800 handset upgraded by CPW (The Fort Shopping Centre, Birmingham, UK) then? Answer that one.
They may not be 'authorised' to carry out software upgrades but they have all the official equipment and EMMA(?) service access and they actually do do it.

Sony Ericsson have not authorised CPW to carry out updates???????????

Well that's a surprise considering we (CPW) have been given equipment and security kit from them over the past few years to carry out software updates!!

I was under the (very strong) impression that CPW have a number of authorized service centres.

The upgrade is free in the first 12 months, then ca. £30 thereafter.

I have had nothing but good experiences (two T68i upgrades).
