My O2 tariff includes 100 free texts and I can use those to text anywhere in the world.... at the moment. Dunno if its the same for Vodaphone though...
However, I have just been informed that from 1st October, international texts will now cost 20p each and are not included in the free ones I get.
International Text Price Change
The charge for sending text messages to international numbers increases as of 1st October 2003. The cost of sending a text from the UK to a mobile on a foreign network will no longer be part of your inclusive texts or Bolt On.
I don't know if this is correct, but apparently all networks are increasing the price of international texts from 1st October on contract and PAYG.
Does anyone know of an free online text service that allows international texting? Both O2 and Lycos complain that an international mobile number isn't valid.

Try
www.smspop.com. Its not free, but dirt cheap compared to british ripoffs. U need to download a small 100 kbytes app from their site. IT works really well, very reliable too, give U sms receipts as well.
