Just received in the post my new 128mb duo.

Currently have a number of programs installed on the 16mb duo, therefore what is the best way to copy everything across?

Power off phone, copy duo using my PC card reader?

or

Backup phone, format, restore with 128mb in place?

Phone is R2F

i think the best way is to backup only the memory stick and then put your backup in the larger 128MB duo

Thanks, my concern was will the phone start up
correctly when I put in the new 128 ms as I have
progs such as HandyDay stored on the old 16 ms

i.e. can I

Backup 16mb ms
Restart phone with new and blank 128mb ms
(presume I will errors about missing apps?)
restore backup to 128mb ms

If you make a back up there is no problem if the mem card is 16 or 128 and its better to back up the and mem card and the internal memory.I have no probs when i restore from 16mb to 64 mb.

It shouldn't be a problem and it should work fine. The phone knows that Handy Day, for example, is installed on a Memory Stick in drive D of your P800. SO, it doesn't really matter what Memory Stick you use as long as the full path (i.e. drive letter D and folder structure) to your program (Handy Day and all else) is unchanged.

I have several progs installed over 2 64M duo's. It seems that the OS is inteligent enough to work out when you have removed the duo from the phone as it also removes the icons from the program list. This allows me to have loads of diff progs on the 2 sticks that all appear under "External Progs" folder and depending on the Duo inserted depends on what appears in that list.

Very good OS programing as it makes my life easier.

If you have a card reader:
Just plug the 16 mb card in. Copy everything to a folder on your computer.
Then plug the 128mb in and copy everything onto the 128mb card.

In case anyone is still interested: I can confirm that a 16MB MSDuo back-up restores to a 128MB MSDuo with no problems.
