Hi there,new to the club.
I'm trying to remote control my pc using vnc server on it and vnc viewer on my p800.
When I point the cursor over the vnc server icon on the taskbar,I get the IP address of my pc,right?
Well, I enter it in the vnc viewer with screen name 0 and the proper password and when I click ok the program just exits without connecting!
In addition, I'd like to know how could I connect using bluetooth instead of gprs. Can anybody there help me? Thanx...

Unless you're within about 5 metres of your server you won't be able to connect via bluetooth, and if you could, you might as well walk over to it and use it directly!

Not sure about the other problem - the application has never exited out on me, although it does not give much of a warning if you put in the wrong password. I'd try VNC on a PC first and check the settings...

I know about the restrictions of bluetooth (although it works within 10 meters from my pc) but I just want to discover the capabilities of that great phone!
e.g. Lying on your bed to watch a divx movie on your pc and don't have any need to get up and click "pause" when my roommate enters or anything like that...
anyway,thank you!

anyone else has an idea why the vnc viewer exits without connecting?
and how connect via bt?
or are there any other apps instead of this?(followed by instructions, please!)

Going back to your bluetooth question, I don't think it's possible as VNC requires access to an IP address. Bluetooth is a means to connect two devices like a headset to the phone. Bluetooth does not connect to the Internet as such.

The only option you really have that I am aware of is via GPRS. It is possible that you might be able to establish a dialup connection (assuming your network supports HSCSD high speed internet) although I've not managed it myself. Haven't tried very hard, mind you...

There is another program called Remote (not IR Remote) which reportedly does the same thing, but again that'll connect over GRPS...

Your phone has the same IP address as your computer, so the VNC Server thinks that you are trying to view your desktop from a VNC client on your desktop, creating a messy feedback loop.

There is a registry setting for the VNC server to allow a loopback connection (client and server on same IP address) but I can't remember what it is. Better still, TightVNC [http://www.tightvnc.com/] has an option on the configuration dialog to allow this.

VNC is pretty much unusable from the P800 though.

It doesn't have to be unusable, if they made a few options available.

What's missing is a way to do right click (jog dial back or front?) and double click (jog dial push?).

Also, some way to only download the video area that I'm interested in, instead of an entire, HUGE Pc screen on my itty bitty little P800 screen..

Finally managed to connect to my pc through gprs using the Bitween "remote control" server on the pc and the rcClient on the P800.
I couldn't get the vnc viewer to work because the vnc server "suggested" (when I pointed the cursor over the vnc server icon in the taskbar) a wrong ip address! The solution was http://www.whatismyip.com
But even with my correct ip entered, the vnc viewer refused to connect (just exits without connecting...) so, I tried "remote control" which worked fine with gprs.
I'd like to know if there is anybody out there who managed to connect via bluetooth using Bitween's "remote control". Please guys, guide me through! Or, suggest any other ways to finally view my desktop on my touch screen without having to pay for gprs...
Thank you for wasting your time with a novice

VNC over bluetooth works quite well for me.

The secret was the loopback setting as mentioned above. On my PC the setting is called "AllowLoopback", it's set to DWORD 1 and it is at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORL\WinVNC3.

A very convenient use (that quite impresses people) is when giving a powerpoint presentation on a projector from my laptop. I just touch my phone screen (click) to advance the slide, from anywhere in the room (like to walk around while I present).

As for how to right-click: try long-clicking. Supposed to bring up the right-click menu if you keep the stylus still enough. Doesn't always work for me.

all right hippo, you're my man!
i want you to guide me through every single step, because i'm not familiar with vnc and never actually managed to connect even via gprs.

please, help me and don't rush! we'll have enough time to discuss about right clicking etc after I manage the basics first.
