I have a T310. I installed a screensaver. It appears and stays on the screen for a few seconds then the huge floating clock display with dark background takes over the screen. So, what is the purpose of user installed screen savers on these phones ? Is it possible to disable this huge clock display ?

as mentioned in the
Answers to the most common questions on Esato Forums (FAQ style) you cannot disable the clock.
Whats the use of the screensavers? no bl**dy use IMHO!

It's just a fun thing thats shown a cpl of seconds before the clock/powersave mode turn on. I wouldn't want it in any other way
since I do like to have good standby/talktime on my phones

I know WHY it happens like this, but wonder why SE can't have an option either to keep the screensaver on - or at least varying times (10, 20, 50 seconds or whatever).
It can then, like the ringtones, have a warning saying "Use of screensaver will degrade battery performance". As the batteries are generally so good these days, many people will not care.
There are lots of things that could be customised on the phone and it's only software. None of it is essential but it's these small things that make people like a phone even more because it has none of the little niggles that help convince someone to go elsewhere when it comes to upgrading.

I agree with that and it is one of the things I did like about the P800... lots of knobs and switches... thats what makes me happy!

Probobly because

knows how users are they gonna get
flooded with calls to their support with ppl complaining about
bad batterytime and wanting to send it in and refusing to
admit they always have their animated screensaver running
So I understand them...even though I am all for giving the user
options to customize everything and removing all preinstalled items.

SE should tell these people to p**s off then!
It's the same idiots who phone in that stopped SE from using the time/minutes standby/talktime meters on their new phones.
I found the feature was excellent and knew full well that if it says 100 hours standby and I then make a 4 hour call, it wouldn't say 96 hours standby afterwards...
