Ok, so I just spoke to a company in order to buy a 128mb duo... And, to cut a long story short, the man I spoke to informed me that Sony have discontinued making 128 duos, and the only ones left are being sold like hot cakes. So if you want 1 you best hunt them down ASAP.

News has it that the job of producing duo's has been given to a 3rd party, who, around the beginning of 2004, will be producing upto 1gig duo's, which will be sold at next to nothing prices.

How much of this is true, or b*llo*Ks I do not know.

Anyone else had any news of this???

I received this yesterday and I thought it was just an excuse not to ship me the 128MB Duo at the price I bought it for. If this is the way Sony supports their products, we could all be in for a rude awakening.

Does anyone out there know for sure if Sony has dropped the 128MB Duo?

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your patience in waiting for the availability of this product.

Unfortunately we have just received word from Sony that they are discontinuing this item. Since it first came out, this item has had a large back order, but only a very limited few were made. Sparco’s backorder was never filled.

The Magic Gate Series of the Memory Stick are the only ones that are to be discontinued. We do carry the regular memory Sticks by Sony (i.e. Sparco Part #: A666698). Though, the Magic Gate Series is discontinued, the Magic Gate’s 64MB Memory Stick made it through production. The Sparco Part Number is A159532. There are plenty of the 64MB Magic Gate available at the moment. These are the 2 options that we can suggest.

Please let us know how you would like to proceed from here. Thanks

Sony memory stick duos are well overpriced as we all know already, so is the majority of their products, don't get me wrong i own alot of their stuff but it would certainly ease the burden on my poor wallet if a third party manufacturer does start to produce ms duos, i just hope SE sort themselves out before they release the P810/900 or whatever they decide to call it. I think there is a truth behind this.

What the man say basically Sony has discontinued the 128MB MSDuo(White MagicGate that P800 users are currently using). I suspect that the 64MB MSDuo is goig to be discotinued also. The 64MB that the second retailer offered was a leftover stock that they are not able to sell.

I think it has been already announced and discussed somewhere that the new duo 64MB and 128MB(Blue) will feture High Speed Data Transfer as well as MagicGate and has the same interfaces as MSDuo Pro 256MB and 512MB.

The new 128MB Duo with High Speed Data Transfer MSRP at USD69 only(Posted in Sandisk Press Released). Well that explain there is no place for the current USD 100+ MSDuo(White Magic Gate) and it has to be discontinued.

This is a good news actually as in order to be able to read the High Speed data Transfer Duo SE has to upgrade the firmware to read the new Duo or maybe the new firmware already ready for the new Duo. Since the new MSDuo with HSDT has the same interface as the MSDuo Pro I don't see why the P800 cannot read the DuoPro.

The new Duo and Duo Pro is going to be produced by Sony, Lexar and Sandisk in mass quantity in several weeks. See what develops. What is the rush to buy the old, overpriced and overly slow Duo?

hopefully it does eventhough i have a 128MB already. i wish the next time they a successor to the p800 they don’t limit the expandable ram to 128MB. i can only have so many mp3's, mp4's and applications. i need more room and i couldn’t be bothered powering down then up to change duo's.

@Arfi-Gorgona
there have been many posts here in the past trying to tell people that 128MB is the biggest memory card you can fit into a p800. even if they manufacture 256, 512, etc. you will only be able to use a 128mb. it says so in the manual. do a search on this site and i bet you will find many posts where people think you can fit a bigger memory card.

At no point in the SE manual does it say that 128mb is the biggest it will ever take! It says it will take up to 128mb, and was printed at a point in time when 128mb was on the distant horizon! So unless someone can prove 128mb IS the biggest that can be used STOP quoting verbatim from an out of date manual! And before you say PRO DUO won't work in a P800 read the Sony development site before you flame me!
