I've been trying to activate the screen-lock. The default code of 0000 doesn't work, I thought it was wrong. I phoned Phones4U who said the default code IS indeed 0000 on all Vodafone phones.

Well, I've tried and it's saying invalid code.

If I phone Vodafone and as for a PUK, will this allow me to enter my own code, and more importantly, what about the settings/contacts/etc. Will these be lost?

you shouldnt loose any contacts or any information. phone voda and ask them for a PUK. it will be some possible multidigit number that only works once. you shouldnt encounter any problems as this happened me ages ago going through airport xray machine while mobile was on. it went funny and asked for a PUK, i phoned O2 and put this big number in and the mobile unlocked itself. give them a call and let us know how it works out.

ahh, does the phone need to be locked first though? It says in the manual that I have ten attempts.

normally it would have to have a PIN number and if you couldnt put the correct one in it would ask for a PUK.

Puk is only for sim. Nothing to do with the phone code you are trying to enter. Ring sony ericsson 08705237237 and tell them your phone code no longer works. This message was posted from a T39

After ten attempts the phone asks for a puk2-code, the normal puk code is only for when you enter the wrong pincode to enter your phone is'nt it??

right, let me explain.

If I goto...

apps...control panel...general...phone preferences...locks

There are two options, device and SIM.

The sim works, fine. Reading the book, if I want a PIN activated at phone-bootup, or, when the phone is in screensaver, then I need to change the Device Pin.

Phones4U AND Vodafone have said the default code is 0000. I've tried that (even tried OOOO), and it keeps saying invalid code.

Tried Vodafone tonight for a PUK, but no answer!!

The default pincode is indeed 0000 but i thing you mean pin2code, cause on that code you get 10 attempts and for the normal pincode 3 attempts. And i don't know the standard pin2code either, i got a few simcards locked when i tried to find out 1

To get your puk code
dial 191
option 1
option 3
then enter your phone number
automated service

if you enter your puk number wrong after 10 times then you need puk2 code

i did this on mine and it HAD changed the code the first time but not confirmed it, i only found this out after seeing what wouild happen if i entered MY pin when it asked for it the first time, if not try 1234/12345 etc, you get unlimited goes at the device lock code i believe? (dont quote me on that)
