Hi all.

Just a quick warning to anyone who has an overseas purchased T610 and plans to upgrade the software here in New Zealand. Don't do it unless you want your T610 to be Vodafone Live branded.

I had a perfectly usable T610 until the upgrade to R1L. There was no Vodafone Live branding as it was purchased overseas. Now the front right soft key (which previously displayed the shortcut menu) links directly to Vodafone Live in addition to the other button at the top right. So you now have two buttons that do exactly the same job and no access to the shortcuts!!!

Previously the main menu icons where perfectly acceptably looking 64 color icons. Now they have been replaced by two color icons that look like they were created by a child.

I cannot imagine what Vodafone New Zealand where thinking when the designed this user interface. They have destroyed a pretty nice UI and replaced it with something that looks pathetic and reduces the functionality. So, if you still have R1A on your non branded T610, leave it that way. You will not be happy with the R1L upgrade in this part of the world. I understand the service centres have no choice but to utilise the Vodafone Branded software either.

What will it take to convince Vodafone that this behaviour will loose them business, although I understand its a global initiative from Vodafone. They want all Vodafone users to use branded software that links to their Live site. I can understand that - but do they need to destroy a phone to achieve that.

So now the hunt to rid my T610 of the branded software...

Cheers Mike

Hi,

I've recently bought a Vodafone branded T610 in New Zealand. I'm very disappointed with the vodafone software. Crappy icons, duplicated buttons for Live and stupid preloaded undeletable images using 300k of the phone's storage. Has anyone in NZ sucessfully de-vodafoned their T610? I'd love to have a plain vanilla original Sony OS.

Thanks,
Joseph.

Try searching through http://www.cellular-support.com there is a ton of information there about debranding. You can also search through this forum, but playing with your T610 is discouraged here, because you can cause damage and definitely viod your warranty.

My view is that Vodafone have already damaged my phone anyway so I am prepared to have a go myself to put things back to right.

Good luck to you and complain about it to Vodafone. It amounts to false advertising because non of the adverts for the T610 show it as it actually is when dressed in the Vodafone livery. All of the pictures show the standard SE livery which is NOT what you get.

Unless enough people complain they will assume that we are happy with their handywork.

Cheers Mike
