I just bought a T610, my first SE phone, so I need your input on this.

I don't know whether the battery charger is defective or not but during the first time that I charged the phone, there was an animation indicating that the battery is being charged and the joystick red light was on. After a while, everything went blank including the red light. (the phone is turned off by the way). The only indication left that there's charging going on is the change in the battery strength indicator. I've been charging the phone for more than 4 hours and the indicator is still inicated that its only 3/4 full. Is this normal for a first charge?

you advised in the manual you get with the phone to charge it for about 12-16 hours for the first charge...

leave it for a bit more and youll be fine

Actually the manual says 4 hours for initial charge.

Don't worry too much about the indications until you have done a few charge cycles because it takes a few for the battery to work at best performance.

hmmm... whereas I prefer to go with the manufacturers recommendation in their own manual as I am not a battery technology expert and I think that is the safer side

yeah its only a battery but I reckon that if we are going to give advice here we should base it on documented data where possible and only give subjective personal opinion when there is none.

Well thats my principal anyway whether its only a battery we're discussing or something much more important.

It's always a good idea to charge your battery by the book the first couple of times so it is properly conditioned. I have a T610 - it's my 6th Sony Ericsson phone to date and I have noticed that its battery takes less to charge than any of the others. I would still go by the book the first few times...

Ok just for curiosity (and in case this thread comes up in a search) I checked some manuals and found the following... it seems all SE phones say 4 hours but Ericsson phones say different things

P800 - 4 hours
T610 - 4 hours
T68i - 4 hours
T68 - 4 hours
T300 - 4 hours
T310 - 4 hours
T600 - 4 hours
T39m - 4 hours
T28 world - 3 hours
T18 - no recommendation. just until light is steady green
