As all the T610 users may have noticed, the increasing ringtone feature does not work, irrespective of what the option is set to. It's off by default, but still, the ringtones fade.

This has come to the point of annoyance, as I simply can't here the phone not until after a few seconds. Sometimes, it's too late to answer the call.

Now, I was of the belief that this was a simple firmware bug that'd be fixed in a future release, but to my great disappointment, my firmware turned out to be the latest version available, according to a Sony Ericsson support employee. I also got to know that this "bug" was a mere design matter that would prevent impairment of the hearing if the phone was held against the user's ear when a called was received. I accepted the answer and hung up, stupidly enough.

However, I called back and asked the same question in the hope of receiving a more intelligent answer. The second support employee put me on hold and (presumably) picked a suck at someone else's brain. Her answer was identical to the first one I was given, and this time, it led me to the question why the option was there, if it never was supposed to be utilized.

She told me that it indeed was a good question, but that she didn't know. She also claimed that no future updates of the firmware would improve, or rather initiate, the functionality of the increasing ring option.

I hate increasing ringtones. I have to wait approximately 3 seconds before the signal is barely audible. What do you think about this? Can the Swedish SE support be uninformed and there is in fact a new firmware on its way? Or is there a hacked software to fix this issue?

I'm almost disconsolated!

I have a SIM free T610, R1A software. The increasing ring option when set to On does work. Was using 'Old Phone' as the ringtone.

I hate this increasing ringtones myself. I believe it is done on purpose and meant to prevent loud ringtones from damaging ear drums in case someone placed the earpiece on his ear during an incoming call. SE just tries to play it safe than opens itself to unwarranted damaged eardrums lawsuit.

You may notice all old non polyphonics SE phones have separate speaker for ringtones built on top of the phones wherelse T610 share the same speaker for both ringtones and earpiece. Those speaker placed on top of SE phones can't generate good quality polyphonic tones prompted SE to share both ringtones & earpiece speaker in one.

I don't think this is a bug and I bet SE will not change it in the next firmware upgrade
