Saw on BBC news 24(world business report)that Voda have picked Sony and Samsung to make their 3g phones(they did'nt say SE but i suppose that's what they meant)so does this mean that the z1010 will be available from them and how long do you think it'll be when they start 3g.
I presume Orange will start their 3g services around the same time then, hopefully they will choose Sony(Ericsson)also.
Btw,i missed whether they said UK or US,

anyone???

Ps.the only mention of nokia was their 4% drop in sales,

Quote:Many operators have enough of Nokia´s domination over cell phone market. Vodafone, the biggest cellular network operator in the world is now in the process of dumping Nokia .. it may constitute big opportunity not only for other hardware vendors but also for Microsoft.

Vodafone achieved big success with its "Vodafone Live!" cell phone services portfolio. Now Vodafone decided, that it is time to reduce dependence on Nokia, and Vodafone is planning to order flagship cell phones for upcoming UMTS/3G networks not from Nokia but from Sanyo und Samsung. Most of these 3G phones are regular phones (running proprietary software), not smartphones, so there is no big opportunity for Microsoft here right now. However the second generation of UMTS cell phones will include also smart phones and here the opportunities for Microsoft are vast!

Vodafone dumps Nokia - a chance for Microsoft

Many operators have enough of Nokia´s domination over cell phone market. Vodafone, the biggest cellular network operator in the world is now in the process of dumping Nokia ... it may constitute big opportunity not only for other hardware vendors but also for Microsoft.

Nokia is a corporation that is malicious to network operators and to any competition, what this move of Vodafone is proving. Nokia is evil. Network operators lost many billions of dollars due to wrong technical decisions of Nokia and now they have enough of it! Lately Nokia introduced for example first 3G phones that have no ability for video telephony at all (while 3G phones in Japan can be used for video telephony of course). Previously Nokia was pushing on operators outdated WAP technologies and was very late with GPRS introduction (Nokia was selling GPRS newtorks first, but released GPRS cell phones with big big delay). We know more examples of malicious behaviour of Nokia towards operators but we cannot publish them due to legal reasons... Nokia is making cell phones, Symbian Series 60 software for smartphones, Series 60 and Series 80 smartphones and communicators, cellular network infrastructure, and many many other things. Nokia tries to be anybody to everybody, while Microsoft offers only software for smartphones, Microsoft is not making any cell phones and thus is not cannibalizing its own smartphone license takers; and operators in Microsoft´s business model for cell phone industry come first - it is operators who are branding Microsoft smartphones and who are in the foreground. Microsoft is therefore good for operators while Nokia (and Symbian that is just a puppet of Nokia as Motorola lately showed by dumping Symbian shares) is a bad solution for operators.

Have nokia already peaked then?

Lol yes well it was to make a sort of confirmation of what you said. But it's strange it says that they will work with Samsung and Sanyo and yours say Samsung and Sony ..... or Sanyo was misspelled and it's Sony
