I've searched for ages, but found the solution to sync/surf using a Wavelinker USB dongle.
It is on this site, but below is a summary to hopefully save om people the hassle I had (or the cost of getting a TDK etc. dongle).
Don't install the rubbish s/w which comes with the dongle.
Go to:
http://www.tecomproduct.com
Follow links for support, downloads etc. and you'll finds nothing listed for their dongle. Don't panic.
Click the ftp link, and download the zip file GM_BTW.zip
Unzip this, and run the instal exe.
Close your PC, plug in the dongle, restart and it should instal the drivers automatically (XP users will get the MS hassle window; click continue anyway).
Job's a good'un.
You've got the same s/w as the TDK dongle (I think) with your cheap one.
Pair the devices, open the BT serial link, no problems at all.
Cheers for the people who've solved this elsewhere on the forum; I'm not claiming credit for their work.

This is excellent advice. Thanks for collecting it and posting it.
I tried version 3 of the Wave Linker software which is still awful. It crashes all the time. Half the features don't work. With this set of software the dongle worked great.
If you have a Wave Linker then you *need* to do this.
