Ooooooo, that's a toughy. Don't really think you can. MP3 is designed to be more portable.
Try converting it to OGG.

IMHO, when a phone rings, we usually answer them in a few seconds...
So why would you want to put an entire song as a ringtone?
What I do is I edit the soundtrack to take a part that I like the most and crop that into a single .WAV ringtone a few seconds in length that is about 80 or 100 KB which is still too much for some...
Have a great weekend!

You can easyly convert an mp3 to a small (tiny) wav file if you use the proper encoding. You can do this with an appropriate program like GoldWave or even better Sonic Foundry's SoundForge (and many many other spesialised software). But if you are not into buying one of these you can even use the built-in Windows sound recorder. The only problem is that when using sound recorder you must work with wav files, so you must first convert them with the program u already use and then re-encode them (if you work with Soundforge or Goldwave you can convert directly mp3's to small sized wav's). Just go to Start>Programs>Accessories>Entertainment>Sound Recoder. Open your wav file and then choose File>Save As.. In the bottom of the "Save As" window there is a small button "Format .... Change" go there and choose GSM 6.10 , 22 or 44 KHz Mono... You can store more than a minute of music in less than 400 kb

i use Cool Edit.
no probs converting MP3s to WAVs. the most important thing is changing the bitrate for the WAV, that makes the file much smaller.

What faithless1976 does with soundrecorder is what I do! but I have less quality then what he has set it. Its the perfect way and uses free software!
connverting a MP3 into a wav without proper software, I write a audio CD with the MP3 file and then convert the CD back to Wav, its cost as much as a blank cd(20cents) but no software!
