Hi all,

Ive got a bit of a problem in choosing a phone (I know this is a pro-SE forum, so if anyone knows of any popular all-makes forums, please say)...

I've only got 2 real requirements/interests:
Gaming & camera.

Now its sort of an odd one, but i know if someone recommended an ngage or GBA or or something, i wouldn't be impressed, as i know that these were designed for games and may have phone features as extras - i think i like phone games because i know that the device is a phone, yet plays games of a relatively-high standard - im more impressed, basically.

About the camera - its primeraly going to be used to take colour photos of pages from books in my uni's library (im a design student, so to be honest, i only really need to be able to take photos of the pictures, but being able to read text from the books would be nice/helpful if possible).

The phones ive got on my list are:

SE P800
NOK 3650
SE T610

Trouble is that I have problems with all of them:
(I have a bias towards the SE phones as i have a t68i now and have been really impressed by it...)

The P800 is a super-phone with expandable memory if needed, and a lot of the games i have seen have been in 'real' 3D. problem is that Nokia phones have waaaay more games, AND im not sure about using the touch screen or the jog dial for control... Does anyone know of any games that can be played using the keypad, and how most games ar played (is it mostly jogdial or touch screen?). Also only 4096 (?) colour screen...

The 3650 is nice - a bit cheaper, cheaper memory too. It has loads of games available, but not as many are 3D like the P800 (correct me if i am wrong on that - fairly important). the other problem lies in the keypad - i dont mind the design (i always look for functionality first), and some say it is better for text/dialing etc... BUT - does its design mean that you HAVE to use the directional pad-thing rather than keys to control games? (i assume most phones are like the t68i where u can use 2,4,6,8 buttons instead of joystick - something i find easier). It is also the case that the phone is not as fast (105mhz processor rather than 145mhz on a p800?), and doesnt have the same range of apps as the p800 (the p800 feels more like a mini-pc - the 3650 is still definately a phone)....

Finally, the T610 is good as it is small (although i dont really care), cheaper, has traditional keypad and most importantly has a 65K screen (is there any noticable difference for camera shots & games?). Problems are tiny (not upgradable) memory, even fewer games available, worse camera(?)...

Does anyone have other phone suggestions, or answers to any of the above questions that may help me?

Thanks loads in advance

depends wat type of games ur into. the p800 is pretty useless for arcade style games, but for oldskool rpg's it is the best. u can use the touch screen to control character and stuff.

about the camera, i dont think any of the cameras on any fones to date are good enough to capture text and make it readable on the fone. only if u have a very still hand and a computer to upload it to will the camera be useable to read pages in a book an stuff.

as for the 3650 and the t610, i have not a clue.

(oh, games do cost money too. but like all things on the internet, not if u know where to look )

i'd go for the 3650 too. its games are quite good. they and its apps are very abundant and can be found easily.

also it has the best camera i have seen on a phone, nect to the mca-25. p800's and t610's cameras don't even come close to the 3650's.

ScreamerUK,

Choose the P800. Why? The emulators available on the p800 are great! You can play SegaGames on your P800 (Sonic, Mortal Kombat etc.) You can play LucasGames (Monkey Island etc.). You can play Gameboy games (Mario, Grand Theft Auto, etc.) and some other emulators.

I think the 3650 has got a better camera then the P800.

Guys what is a better camera for you? if the better camera is the camera that look nices in the phone yes the 3650 camera is better because of some smart dithering nokia have. But when the photos move to the pc then its another matter the p800 cam have more accurate colors than 3650,3650 colour are a little brighter but lack colour accuracy.

i totally agree ive have a 7650 a 3650 and the sep800 and the pictures once put on the pc are better from the p800, but the 7650 nightime setting is way the best of all of them

for everything you've mentioned that you need id suggest you go for a 3650 but wait a bit as they are testing OS7.0s with perhaps a view of updating the 3650 with this version of symbian that will be on the upcoming 6600--maybe wait for that?? digial zoom on camera and video anyone??!!
