Like with a 128MB and all.
I have a VCD of The Matrix, and I'll like to know if there's any programs to convert the .DAT file into a .MP4 file. And also, is it possible to fit in a 128MB.
I think there were some earlier threads on viewing movies on the P800?

Wouldn't it be a bit tiring (to say the least) to watch a 2 and a half hour movie on your P800? I love my P800 and everything but I don't know how I'd feel if I had to keep watching something on it for 2.5 hours. Another thing, The Matrix is the kind of movie that would not be done justice if watched on a device like the P800. You need to give the special effects room to flex their muscle to really be able to enjoy the movie like it was meant to be enjoyed.
Just my thoughts. I'd be interested to know if it can indeed fit on a 128MB Duo though

@Mimzo
I agree with you whole heartedly in what you say, but I think your missing the point. The point wouldn't be to enjoy the film,or even watch it.The point would be to sit on the bus\train and impress the Nokia user beside you with your jack-of-all trades phone.
Unfortunately he might get so jealous that he could follow you off the bus\train and mug you for it ... hmmmm ... probably best to watch it on a TV then!

Hmmm.. wouldn't that be a rather shallow reason for playing movies on the P800? and what happens when the nokia turns around and shows how easy it his for him to record video there and then on the spot!

Shallow? Of course its shallow, but when your packing a beats like the P800 in your pocket you have a God given duty to be shallow! As for the Nokia user turning round, well the P800 will no doubt be heavier than his Nokia, so just conk him over the noggin with it.

...and he will have the last laugh as your screen cracks and liquid crystal all pours out!

True, but as that liquid crystal seeps out, you have the satisfaction of knowing that he will have a very small lump on his head, thus embaressing him at Ambassadorial dinners, state openings, Lord Mayor's Banquests and other such everyday social events.

oi... who are you calling clown?

I thought this thread lost the plot ages ago.
To answer the question... well we can already make mpeg4 so its just a matter of having a big DUO (oh no, not that argument again!) to transfer it to. As for the argument about being hard to watch it on such a small screen there are two things... first many ipaq owners already do this and secondly if you are in a shop with your wife/girlfriend buying clothes you need something to occupy yourself and a small screen would not be a problem! The question is would the movie be long enough!

well I watch episodes of futurama on there and they are only about 20mb, so you could easily fit it on, but to make them comfortable to watch I encode at fullscreen resolution and use the camcoder application to watch them.
So you can do it, you just need the tool to encode it. For your VCD you will probably need to encode it AVI then use a packet video application to encode to mp4, I would reccommend sorenson squeeze, but it doesn't have the right codec to encode sound with camcoder as you need AMR.
anyway hope that helps,
Daz.
