Sony Ericsson P810 exposed by Orange
By: Jørgen Sundgot, Thursday 14th August 2003, 08:02 GMT

Short on the heels of exposing its own SPV2 smartphone, a discovery is made that Orange also offers information concerning the upcoming Sony Ericsson P810 on its French web site.

Rumours regarding a successor to Sony Ericsson's first-generation Symbian OS product, the UIQ-based P800, have circulated in enthusiast communities for quite some time now, despite any lack of comment by the manufacturer concerning the alledged existence of such a device. Now, mobile network operator Orange cranks up the heat under Sony Ericsson another notch as its French arm publishes information concerning such a device online.

Listed as the Sony Ericsson P810 by Orange France, the information appears to confirm rumours circulating on numerous enthusiast web sites stating that the model name of the successor will either be P810 or P900. Regardless, sources claim the new model will offer only incremental upgrades over the P800, and will not feature a largely different form factor.

These claims are to some extent confirmed by specifications listed by Orange France, which contain references to the resolution of the display centerpiece not being altered - it is still a 208 x 320 pixel resolution, 16-bit colour TFT display. Similarly, the physical measurements of 158 g and 115 x 57 x 23 mm are only marginally different from those of the P800.

Other features of the P810 model will according to Orange France be support for MMS, WAP 2.0, XHTML, J2ME integrated Bluetooth and an integrated digital camera. Also, it will feature tri-band GSM 900/1800/1900 MHz, as well as support for GPRS 4+1, and offer standby and talk times of respectively 400 and 13 hours.

Orange France has availability of the Sony Ericsson P810 slated for October 1st, however, since similar information posted online exposing the operator's own SPV2 smartphone was stated by Orange to be incorrect, the possibility that this might also be the case with the P810 is very much present.

Orange officials declined to comment on the information presented on the Orange France web site regarding the Sony Ericsson P810.
