Will we be able to transfer purchased software like Handy Day etc. on P810/900. What about the IMEI number used to purchase the software.

they would probably work on the P810/900
but because the new phone would have a different IMEI number to your existing p800.. you'd have to buy a new license

Thats not all true with all software!

I have XP on my laptop. I am putting a bigger hard drive in there, so By law I am aloud to transfer the software from one to the other!

When buying software you dont buy the software or cd you buy the licence!

Dont know the case with the software your talking about. but look into it! I would not say dont buy anymore software because you will upgrade again after the p810!

This has been discussed many times over in the my-symbian forum, particularly in the context of having a replacement P800 - in this instance, proof of replacement was considered to be sufficient.

If I upgrade my phone, and i remove the software from the old phone, and install it on the new phone, I should not need to purchase another license. However, since developers can not be sure that that is what I have done, they may well not provide me with a new key to use the software on the new phone... They could be on shaky ground though since I have paid for a license to use their software.... (I's like CDs etc.; if your CD gets scratched, send it back to the music producer, and they should replace it, charging you only for p&p and the cost of a new CD, since you own a license to listen to that music).

This is a REALLY good issue to discuss tho'.

In some aspects, If you buy software and sell the cd without the licence that person who has the orignal CD, has a illegal copy. Because you sold the CD NOT THE LICENCE!

...a good case being Windows OS disc, MINUS the OEM sticker on the base of your machine (OEM OS comes with a sticker that you affix to the destination unit)...
