Hi, does anyone have any experience of over clocking the processor and memory?
Breaking my question down a little bit:
1. What hardware and software tools are available (and from where) to access (read) and modify the firmware?
2. What’s the maximum clock frequency of the ARM9 with reasonable stability?
3. What’s the maximum frequency for the internal memory with reasonable stability?
4. What’s the maximum internal memory addressable with the current firmware?
5. What’s the maximum internal memory addressable by the P800 hardware (excluding current firmware limitations)?
Cheers!?

As we say in Poland - 'if she moves clock her' - or something like that!
Why not? Why do anything!
The question to me is might it worth doing (e.g. in terms of performance improvements), what would be the downsides (e.g. power consumption) and how practicle would it be (e.g. resources and cost).
Have you never over clocked a PC?
That's why I asked the questions!

ok fletche what you need to understand is that to the best of my knowledge the settings for the processor are hard-coded. this is precisely to prevent overclocking, as this would change the dynamics of the phone, possibly causing it to be incompatible with firmware updates, and if you lived in a hot climate you could potentially destroy your phone. As for overclocking the memory even on desktops it does not provide a readily noticeable difference in performance exept when brought out through benchmarking
just my 0.02p
there used to be something quite interesting here... though out of respect for vermania i have deleted it.... i stick to it tho

Overclocking memory on PC/videocard can give a big performance boost.

Dear Malcs
Your attitude and approach is shocking and very upsetting. You are representing this forum and when you dis respect newr members you are direspecting the site as a whoe. I owuld like it if you edit your post or apologise to every one you have offended.
Finally i wish no harm and apologise if i have upset any body on this site.

I believe P800 is underclocked to save power. Overclocking it (if it was possible) would cause is to use far to much power.
There is no "BIOS" or jumpers to configure any voltages/etc...
My best guess it's the firmware that defines and controls everything (i doubt it's hardcoded)
Finally, you are forgeting a very important part of overclocking - extra cooling! I seriously doubt you can buy a custom chipset fan for P800

Try thinking out of your box, or should I say cage.
Megabrain, who said anything about only the software limitations.
Ask yourself this question – What is the maximum frequency that the ARM9 will run at?
That was the question.
If you don’t know the answer, stick to messing up your keyboard.

Thanks. I agree with what you are saying. However the ARM9 is cool in my unit (maybe 35C) this chip should happily run at 60C. As for power consumption you could incorporate a ‘switch’ to move to turbo mode.

I agree with you on the matter of overclocking, and getting the maximum performance from the equipment, however I believe that when it comes to phones, performance is more then simply raw speed. It's also stability, reliability, and battery life

.
There are no tools available to tweak or test the performance on P800 either, so even if there was a way to overclock it, it would be very tricky to find the right balance.

I doubt you could over clock by more than 10mhz if anything at all and it aint going to make much difference to your 3d mark score
