THis morning, when I turned on my P800, I discovered a series of problems with the phone. Hoping someone can help me. For some reason, the keyboard is not functioning properly -- the number 2 key does not function (when I press it nothing happens) and the ok key and the return arrow key are a bit mixed up. makes it hard to dial, and when I want to do certain things the phone reacts strangely -- dials when it shouldn't, etc. With the flip open there is no problem using the stylus. Any thoughts or advice???

I think it's because, the two little plastic "ears" that juts out from both sides of the keypad has broken. Thus the entire keypad rests on the touchscreen, and when you press a button, an area of the touchscreen is pressed, causing it to not work properly.

@solidmantis, what are you on mate, this is an obvious calibration issue, i think the poster may have mentioned it if his keypad was broken.

Well I had a similar prob, and I didn't notice that the keypad was broken because I didn't even know there were the plastic "ears". They are quite small, and might broke off without him noticing.

@pachy
He doesn't have to be on anything
A friend of mine had a similar problem. In his case, only a tiny edge of the keypad ear was broken and not the whole ear. I went with him to the nearest Service Point, they gave him a new flip for $11 and it was working fine after that.

My point: A small part of the ear might be broken and he doesn't know about it. Also, he says that it works fine with the flip open so it surely must be a flip-closed problem, i.e. a problem in the flip itself.

Hi All -- thanks for the responses. Not a calibration issue...that was what I checked first. I am not sure what is meant by the little "ears" but am off to check it now. It's a bit strange -- the # 2 key does not work at all, and the rturn arrow seems to function as the ok key. it's as though when the keypad is closed the calibration is off, but only when it is closed, which doesn't seem to make much sense...

"ears" are the little bits of plastic that hold the keypad above the glass by resting the keypad on the the vertical silver sides of the P800.

Did you check for dirt etc that often gets caught in the pins on the underside of the keypad?

In the meantime, use flip-off mode...
