ok bought my p800 about 3months ago & i love it unfortunately i broke it! (occupational hazard, managing bars & nightclubs my phones are forever getting droppped/knocked in glasswashers, sinks, pints of beer you name it!) anyway back to the shop with all the paperwork & off it goes for repair/replacement.

its worth mentioning at this point that when i bought the original phone the guys in The Link Warrington informed me that the only P800s available in the northwest were on Orange (not O2 which im on!) but it wasnt a problem they could sell me one & the guy in the shop over the road would unblock it for a tenner which (perhaps foolishly!) was fine by me!

so i get a call after a fortnight to say that a new fone is at the shop ready to collect, unusual i thought cos whenever ive lost a phone before a cheques arrived in the post but hey who cares ive got my fone back! anyway when i get the fone home its apparent that this "New" p800 is far from it. It looks like the p800 spares bin has been emptied into a random box (no packaging just a few bits here and there!) the firmware is R1D instead of the R2F i had before. it has "eDoom" on it which i dont remember being standard software and the camera doesnt bloody work. oh and its another bloody orange phone which i had to pay another tenner to get unblocked!

so to cut to the chase then, have i invalidated my insurance & warranty by unblocking the fone. Are Coverplan likely to fob me off if i ring up and complain? has anybody else been in this situation or is it just me! and will i only ever get orange replacement phones now ive bought one & unblocked two of the bloody things cos to be honest with the powerful tool of hindsight id have been better off waiting tfor O2 p800s to become available!

Dear Friend

You have done no wrong Link Coverplan have screwed you. They are allowed to give you a refurbished unit as long as it is up to scratch. and as it is not you have the right to claim. Secondly as you have invalidated the warranty this doesent matter as the insurance insures the phone not the waranty.

Publically my advice would be to complain. Privatley my advice is to report the hand set stolen.

Finally i am sorry if my post has upset or offended you i am willing to discuss this and help you if it has adverseley effected you.

Yours Sinverly Vermania

p.s thankyou for asking such a innovative and unusual question. surley this will help many esato uses when in future they face this problem and they use the search function they may read this and be educated. The search is great.

cheers for the advise mate

im gonna fone coverplan tomorrow and argue the toss with them im not very confident though in the last eighteen months ive claimed seven times and had five brand new fones four of them t68is) out of them i reckon theyll be getting pretty pissed off with me soon and im surprised they havent told me to piss off already!

failing that ill just have to wait a month or two and make another claim and see what happens.

@magicalex

I am interested in your problem!

Having thoroughly used the search function, there is clearly a lot of evidence that users of the p800 are suffering because of its lack of robustness.

I fully empathise with your situation!

I would like to know when SE is going to improve the radiation hardness of the p800. Even small amounts of neutrinos seem to have a bad effect on the battery life.

Tell me, do you know of any insurance plans that will cover against neutrino exposure?

By the way, I bought a bag, designed for cameras, to allow you to take photos underwater (up to 10 metres depth). This is an ideal (a bit bulk) accessory for my p800 when on diving excursions in the Red Sea. This may be the ideal solution to your bars, p800, beer, insurance thing.

PM me and I’ll send you the details:

Have i been shafted by The Link/Coverplan???
Everyone that takes the Link cover plan is shafted good and proper.

The only phone insurance worth taking is Orange Care.

hey rimmer

they sent me to that new phone shop accross the way from the link that looks like a glorified market stall with just random boxes on shleves. fair dos though they unblocked the fone no questions asked in ten minutes for a tenner.

to be fair to the link they were just doing whatever they could to sell the fone id have done the same in theyre position afterall nobody forced me to buy it and had i not dropped the bloody thing in a sink i wouldnt have any problems with it i was a great fone that i use a hell of a lot.

the issue here is really whether or not ill ever get hold of a decent p800 again bearing in mind theyve palmed me off with a faulty one and ive already run up insurance claims to the cost of almost two grand!!!

im not too confident that ill get any luck with the coverplan people. incidentally does anybody have O2 insurance is that any better or as good as Orange Care?

@ UdayandQusayintheSun

NEUTRINOS???????What the feckadoodledoo are you on about? Have you been watching too much Star Trek or soemthing?
Neutrinos are not a problem you should worry about, approximately sixty trillion pass through your body each second and do bugger all.
If you are interested in protecting your phone from them, however, I would be happy to accept several billion pounds in grants to enable me to develop a way to protect your phone. Either that or I can use the money to pay off my credit cards
