i need some peoples opinions on what phones are better because my mate wants to buy a new phone with java support as he is a java programmer, I told him to go for the T610 SE, but he wants a nokia, so I posted for advice, does anyone know any good java fones which are lightweight, good battery power and small about the size of a 8210,

I also mentiond a 6100, but he is not sure, so any help would be appreciate. Thanks.

The JAVA is supposed to be improved in the new firmware release
As for the memory, I think 2meg is quite a lot. On some nokia phones, perhaps there is more memory, but then you have to remember that that memory is shared by all phone applications. On T610 the Contacts, SMS, Calendar, Voice tags, and maybe some more I forget got they own memory and don't use any of the 2meg user memory.

I guess java Nokia has a wide range of variety and has a nice user interface but personally I think SE has better functionality.

Apart from the lacking sockets support, there is nothing wrong with the T610 java implementation. If he is a java programmer then the T610 will work great. The reasons for some java programs not working on the T610 is because they use Nokia/Siemens java API's and therefore doesn't work on the T610.

As already stated the next firmware update is supposed have a major improvement on the java of the T610 according to SonyEricsson developer newsletter.

if your mate is interested in JAVA. DONT buy T610. it lacks sockets, its SLOOOOW (even with new firmware), no full canvas support and probably many more things that i cant remember. if there will be a newer firmware with improvements then thats good cuz it sure does need that!
