Hi I'm new around here and will take delivery of a p800 on thursday. I see brando are selling Sony Memory Stick PRO Duo 256MB US$145. After all the descussions here does anybody know if this would work in the p800.

I am expecting to be shot down with flames as I know similar has been asked before but I couldn't find a definative answer

And before someone tells me to use the search, I have and some say yes others no, so just asking if anybody has tried or it looks like im going to be a beta tester

Cheers

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the P800 is only capable of taking upto 128mb duo sticks, and thats the same with all the currently available firmware updates. This message was posted from a P800

I cannot speak definitively but ... according to the expansys.com web site at http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=106748 this 256Mb duo memory stick is compatible with the P800 in that they say it is compatible.

Presumably if you were to purchase it from them and found it was not compatible you would be able to return it under the Sale of Goods Act, which I am pretty certain applies to the UK arm of the site.

Maybe not as definitive as you'd want, but there's not much downside - once they get some in stock. (I've pre-ordered things from them before and they genuinely don't take the money until the goods arrive at their warehouse and you re-confirm you want to buy).

I disagree with this - strongly. I reckon that there is no memory size limitation on the P800/MSDuo combination. The restriction lies in the memory stick's architecture, i.e. it won't take Pro sticks....

So, the original poster's question is therefore interesting. I'd say that if they sell you something, for express use to TOGETHER, then if it fails, you're due a refund.

Beta-test away - but, REPORT BACK!!!!!!

Steven.

Like it is says in all other thread about DuoPro and 256 (512)mb...

6 persons says they did try it... 5 without luck (Brando, P800er,....) and one who says it worked but it was not his phone and he has no prove...
SE says every where (whitepaper, mails, when you asked it,..) : NO, certainly not with our firmware, maybe with a new, but seems nothing is planned in a near future.

That's all we all know....

If you follow the link of 'graemeaustin' you will see that Expansys is not mentioning that this is a PRO Memory Stick.

BUT, they also say that the product part number is 'Sony SKU: MSX-M256A'

If you go to SonyStyle, you can see that the part number for the Memory Stick PRO Duo is the same.

So I believe that Expansys is just messing around and that their claim that this MS works with the P800 is wrong.

AFAIK, a memory stick duo that would not be PRO (if ever it is possible to manufacture) would have a part number such as MSG-M256A.

Sony part number scheme (without guarantee !)
MSA-xxxA = full size
MSG-MxxxA = Duo size MSX-xxx = Full size PRO
MSX-MxxxA = Duo size PRO

well i'm amazed with this topic...

It seems No one nows for sure, i'v just order a 128Mb (blue) and hope that works at least..

Why should some one openly advertise the 256Mb is compatable with the P800 when if it is not then it will just back fire on them, surely they would not do this unless they were absolutely sure, any way it seems there are none available anyway?? expansy are still quoting 60 days for the 128Mb?

I think in stats they still could make money! Only 80% of people would return it! Even more when it is a mail order. Humans are lazy!

Hi,

I might be late for this reply. Since i want to upgrade my 64MB to 256MB, I searched everywhere on the web. Sony Ericsson didnt reply me on this.

Check out this site it clearly states P800 doesnt support

256MB.http://www.flash-memory-store.com/somestdunows.html

http://www.flash-memory-store.com/25somestduop.html

I was about to order from a shop. Luckily i was able see the forum & decided to investigate.

Thanks Guys.
