Now with all these new SE phones coming out that looks totally different from these old school E/// phones sitting on the side of my desk, I still appreciate them for what they're worth in the old days when they are known to be extremely reliable and provide excellent reception with their little long antennas. Even with their crappy little screens I still like how they're shaped and how solid they feel.
People will laugh at me and say, "who use those phones these days anyway? they look so huge." I rather not think of it this way. If they didn't make these huge brick phones, what would we be using today?
So I save these precious old school Ericsson phones in my room to keep it safe from people throwing it into garbage bins. Maybe one day I'll have a full collection of Ericsson phones and store them all in a glass cupboard...

I am the same as you. I hated Ericsson until T68 but my broither swore by them because when he got angry he could slam that into a wall or floor and they were fine, apart from the aerial which he often had to replace!

I had a moto 650classic flip and the ericsson rep asked me if i think my phone was tough, i said i think so... the rep dropped the ericsson in his hand right to the floor, and let out a sarcastic oops!!! i dropped mine and said I can do that too, then he hucked his phone tail first into one of the signs on the counter as hard as it could the sign was a flippy one that swung out the way and the phone planted it's arse firmly into the drywall, he pulled it out and dusted it off and said sorry for the wall. I said sorry about your phone, he replied "what are you talking about"? he showed me his phone, it was still on and working fine... he snickered and said "magnesium chassis". I said "Gimme one!!!!" and thats when I started on ericsson phones.

It doesn't look like an 'old outdated phone' on him at all. It looks like no-nonsense sophistication and looks much better than all those Nokia 3310's most people here are using.
The story about the solid construction is correct. They don't even get scratches easily and there is no paint or so to wear off like on the (beautiful) R600. The only reasons for putting to rest these phones is the worn out battery and wanting to have something new. Even the new SE phones do not have the solid finish of these first Ericsson phones.
Also the A2628s could have been a huge succes if it weren't introduced at least a year late.
I find the t39 still one of the most beautiful phones ever made. Technologically it is still an up to date top of the shelf phone even though it misses a colour screen and java. If it were in the stores it would still sell.
I'm sure that one day we'll see phones with a retro style that refer to these Ericssons with their flip.
