Most of our phones are equipped with IR communication capabilities. Is it possible to use our phones as TV remote control for example ?

There are many many threads about this already.
However it is generally conisidered that the IR on mobile phones is not nearly powerful enough so unless you are already sitting on the equipment it would be useless.

Yes you can use certain phones as remote controls, but it all depends on the model. for example my P800 can download infrared remote control software which can be used to control many different electrical devices in the home such as tv, video, hifi, etc, what phone or phones do you own?
This message was posted from a P800

at what sort of range can you get the P800 to control equipment. I could never get past about a metre with mine! and even at that range it was very flakey

Sorry about this BUT why would anyone want to use there phone as a F**king remote control for the TV, i have alway had nokia phones from the analog 101, last phone the brick crap 7250, Ive now got the T610 and i dead happy with it and dont think i will be going back to nokia now ive tried a Sony Ericsson. I use to read the Nokia forums and when i had the brick 9210 everyone was trying to program them to use as a remote for the TV, I cant understand why (just me sorry) i have 3 TV´s in my house and they all come with a remote and they all work fine, please someone tell me why you wana use your mobile phone to change the channels on your tv when on the sofa beside you or on the coffee table infront of you is the TV remote, just pick it up & press the button !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

Because, Nokevin,
1) I'm fed up of using different freakin' remotes standing everywhere.
2) I'm fed up of looking where those freakin' remotes are and I don't want to pay a premium for an universal one.
3) Just out of cruosity which is related to being an engineer. Trying to find new ways to use an existing device.
Everyone has his own reasons and it is better to respect each others reasoning.

YA WIFE
"it must be down the back of the sofa, dear, you was using it to change the channels on the TV last night, dont know why you spend all that money on a new mobile and use it for changing TV channels"
YOU (just going out the front door)
"bollocks, i´ll find it later"

I always keep my phone on my right pocket, eliminating "where did I left the phone" syndrome.
Also we use our home phones, which are quite easy to reach, to ring our cellphones in case we forgot where in the house we last used them. Clever isn't it ?
As I said everyone has his own reasons. So, respect them.
