Just tried to do my first backup but after about 30 sec, the program returns the message "An error has occurred while anaylsing differences between the phone and the PC" with a helpful suggestion to turn on the phone and retry the backup, which subsequently returns the same error message!
Anyone has had the same problem before and suggestions on what's the fix?
My mobile is connected. I am using PC Suite 1.5.1 on XP and firmware is... I'm not sure (Organizer: R2A, CDA: R3A).
I have searched the forums on: P800 backup error problem analysing differences ....

I've had the same problem, download PC Suite 1.5.1. And install it.
If you're already running version 1.5.1. Then try to remove it from the PC. (totally) and the install it again. That worked for me.
If you are using WinXp, then you might have to do something else. In the dir: c:/documents and settings/ "user"/ applicationdat/ sony ericsson. (the place where your backups are store). You have to make sure this dir. is in "Shown" mode and not "hidden". This solved the problem for another guy with the same problem.
Hope it helps.

@Dahm -
Thx for your reply. Tried both ofyour suggestions (reinstall and and changing folder properties) but to no avail. Would not having Outlook (or any other PIM) on my computer be causing the backup failure?

I don't think you have to have outlook installed to do a backup. But I really can't say for sure.

Also having the same damned problem, most annoying. I have searched through the Forum, but options given aren't doing much.

I've sorted my problem

I uninstalled PC Suite 1.5.1 and also made sure that I deleted the SonyEricsson folders in the c:\documents and settings\user\application data\ folders.
I then reinstalled PC Suite 1.5.1 and made a backup. It went swimmingly, absolutely marvellous stuff.

What is rarher unusual about this problem is that there are so mnay different solutions. People who experience this problem all get the same message, therefore we can conclude that the problem is the same one, yet the solutions they have employed to solve the problem are often unique to themselves.
Either this means that we are all experiencing different problems that all have the same effect, or it means that all of these solutions should work. However, having tried the solutions presented here, before trying my own, I found that none of them work.
How can it be then, that an apparently generic problem should have so many different solutions, which appear to be user specific?

Everyone, thanks for your help.
The phone's deletion from MPM settings (and subsequent reconnection) worked for me. This was SE China's suggestion also after they'd reproduced the error msg -
"Dear Sir
We just have reproduced the error message according to your descirption, and it can be solved by re-recognizing the phone from PC via mobile phone monitor, "Control panel">"phone monitor options">remove the existing phone names from the "Celluler phones" and put your P802 onto the deskstand again in order to re-recognize the phone, then it should have no problem to perform the data backup."
