Which should I get?

Second hand T68i or a brand new T610?

The T68i cost around US$98 and the T610 cost 3 times as much

I really don’t care about camera in phones. Personally, they aren’t that good yet.

All I want is Bluetooth, IR, good menu structure.

I’m concerned with what people say about how slow SMS is on the T68i

Any comments? Thanks.

Buy the t610, without a doubt. The t68i sucks on sms, menu and everything else compared to t610... t68i is slow, sucky screen(compared to t610 ofcurse), ++

A tough choice when there's such a big price differential. I decided on a new T68i recently.

First the negatives:
* Screen is not brilliant and can't be compared with my laptop LCD screen. But with the appropriate choice of theme to fully optimise its 256 colours, it's quite decent and nice.
* Menu is a tad slow as described but definite not as bad as what some people puts out. It's adequately functional without winning you that SMS duel match.

Now the positives:
* T610's screen isn't millions of colours yet and the camera is also still of limited resolution. So I'll pass for a future model if I am serious on that front.
* No functional size difference between the two.
* T68i's firmware is now near final and is as free of bugs as is possible. T610's firmware is still evolving. There are bugs and there's the potential for time wastage when you need to have the firmware updated.
* Price! Price! Price! T68i is a bargain at present. Think that with your saving in dollars at this point, you'll be able to keep that money and buy two T610s in a year or so time!

That was my rationale and hope it helps.

t68 compared to the t610 gives you better value for money if you're not concerned about java, a bit-improved screen, or the camera.

the objections about the interface are subjective. i often send SMS from the PC (since I'm stuck with it most of the day anyway) so i have no issues about the reported slow sms.

I guess it all boils down to what you need. If, for instance, you like adding pictures and themes, then you may prefer the T610 as the T68i has just 256 colors, and a smaller memory. But if it's just to use simple calendar, SMS, and the usual. Then you may be satisfied with the T68i.

I have to agree with GOwin, prices right now for the T68i are pretty hard to beat. Value for money, it's the way to go.

if that's so and that's all, i think you could settle for a T68i.

Go for a T68i, the price difference is not worth it if you only need the functions you listed.

The T68m was the sort of updated model of a T68 I think, don't hold me to that though. lol

GOwin:

thanks for the chart. i didn't know that the T68i was lighter. I guess no Java games for me but then again if I like to play I have a PC for that. I just want a phone with BT to use with my upcoming TT3.

-T68-:
I don't know whether the T68m is available here

I know the person selling the unit. She said I can play with it before I decide. What should I look out for?

The T68m is the unit before Ericsson became Sony Ericsson. When Sony Ericsson came out, it changed the name to T68i. However, the T68m's firmware can be upgraded to have the T68i firmware. Basic difference is mms and themes if I recall correctly. (and of course the appearance -- the t68m having the rubber back/battery with the Ericsson logo and name)

I think the first thing you should check out is the joystick count and the firmware version.
