I bought my T610 here in the Philippines. The phone came with O2 predefined items so I pressume that the ultimate source is O2 from the UK. I called up Semicon in Podium to ask for availability of firmware upgrade.

They said that they cannot guarantee that the upgrade will be compatible (upgrade to R3B) as they are not sure whether my phone can take on the Asia-Pacific version of SE firmware R3B.

My questions are as follows:

1. Has anyone here who bought their unit with the same circumstances as mine (with O2 predefined items) upgraded their firmware to R3B ? Did it work ? Have you had a failure or incompatibility in any way ?

2. If I go to the service menu, will I be able to determine the source of my phone via the data provided in the various sections of the service menu ? Meaning, can I determine if my phone is an Asia-Pacific version or a European version just by looking at the data in the various sections in the service menu ? If so, where do I check ?

3. If I find that my phone is not Asia-Pacific version and it ends up being a European version, will my phone "die" on me if I have the firmware upgraded in Semicon Podium with the SE Asia Pacific R3B version ?

Mine also had an O2 customization. Had it upgraded and it's still alive! You'll just have to let them check it first to find out if the update is possible. They'll charge you 500 for the upgrade, or maybe 120 for the diagnostics if the upgrade was not possible. Where did you buy your unit?

Bought my unit at Cellsite Communications, Sapphire Lane in Virramall. I also bought my T68i there and did not have any problems with it.

I just want to make sure that it is OK to upgrade to the new firmware bacause what Semicon Podium told me was alarming. They will make me sign a waiver that they will not take responsibility for the unit if it crashes. They also said that if it crashes, or in the their terms, if I end up getting a "dead set" then they can't bring back the old firmware.

Diagnostics ? The lady I spoke with said the only way to see if it will work is to upgrade and observe. Looks pretty risky to me. That's why I need to get feedback from people who had the same circumstances as I do.

Any more comments and suggestions will be appreciated.

Does your phone still have warranty? If it does, you could ask the person from where you bought it if the warranty covers firmware upgrades. If their warranty covers it, whatever happens to your phone during upgrade would be their responsibility and they should replace it. The upgrade would also be free.
