> ogg files for P800, why mono ?
Bookmark topic
I did a search about ogg files and bitrate settings.
I saw intersting and neverending dbates about bitrates.
But I also read that some posters mentioned they used mono files on their P800.
Does this mean that although we have two earphones the p800 plays mono ???

Most people convert to mono to cut down the file size they are more than happy to listen in mono than stereo
I am pretty sure that although the sound is recorded in mono it is still split between the left and right headphones the same as when you encode mp4's into mono

why someone would want to listen in mono is beyond me..
if its in mono then what u hear from both headphones is exactly the same and very flat but with stereo mixes it sound more crystal, clear if you will the audio output of each headphone will have different 'sounds' depending on which way the artist recored it, eg panning of strings, hi-hats etc from left to right will not come through in mono but in stereo it will sound just right...
Mono just defeats the purpose of listening to 'Modern recorded music in my opinion as it just sounds dull and lifeless etc why put your head through that? after all 'God' gave us Two ears (Stereo) lol not one ear (mono) lol!!!
hope you understood that somewhat simple explanation!!

if your playing it through the loud speaker... theres only one speaker, so having it in mono wouldnt affect it

if the file is encoded in mono, then theres no way it could.. it would just play the mono signal down both headphones....

if you have a mp3 encoded in stereo.. it'll play thru headphones in stereo.. but thru speaker in mono.
