I have the t68m upgraded to the r7a software and have used it (since bought on contract in the uk on vodafone unlocked) in uk and mauritius with two mobile phone companies there (so, im sure its not locked, and the phone worked fine with both).
i came to ireland and used the vodafone sim card fine without any problems for a week and when i tried using a meteor simcard (cheaper rates and texts), the phone doesnt
a) get any signals, or when it has, doesnt receive calls nor am i able to call
b)i did get signal, but after 6 seconds trying to top up, it just went and dropped the call.
c) the sim card worked in another phone.
d) all other simcard still work with the t68 though i had a bit of a trouble when using the vodafone simcard again, took a bit of time and same symptoms as the meteor card for some time before returning to normal.
d) went to the meteor store, spent over an hour with customer care. they even sim swapped, but that didnt change anything (i commend their helpfulness. Boo to vodafone)
still same problem, i cannot use that meteor sim card, nor any other meteor sim cards on the t68.
anyone ever got that experience or anyone could help?no one at the meteor store could do anything, and they support SE t68i because they sell it at €289 on contract and €599 on pay as u go.
and i am in ireland.
I do get the Meteor logo on the screen, its just i cannot make any calls, nor send any texts or receive calls.
thanks for helping out!

I have had a similar problem with a very old t68m (so have many friends) after around a year of use the t68 is prone to this, it has a reasonable signal but as soon as any demand is put on the battery (trying to make or recieve a call for example) the signal drops away, i used to give the phone a sharp tap on a hard surface to temporarily cure it, but the phone will need service center attention,in the meantime a very good strip down & clean out of all the dust can help as the problem seems to be that of a bad contact on the mainboard.
Use low presssure compressed air & a soft paintbrush if cleaning it yourself.

Thing is, i had the phone serviced about 3 weeks ago, and it only happens with the meteor sim card. The demand on the battery thing, is it because of the sim card itself?

thanks for replying, it at least tells me a little about what's going on! when all the customer care and the technical division had no clue

cheers

I'm not sure where you live and probably have no idea about the service providers you have there. Have you thought that maybe its the network and they just have a problem with SE phones with that specific network. Not sure.

Not really. Im in ireland, the worst country to have an SE i think, since i know of no SE service centres.
Besides, the mobile phone company offers t68i on pay as u go or pay later, as i said above.
Its just weird and i think a once off thing?

Well the T68i does manage to hold on to a signal fairly well in gaps once it HAS a connection, but i found it was less reliable in a VERY weak signal than my other phones,Also its just possible that the sim or sim contacts on the phone are greasy,(only clean them with a cottton bud with a little meths, & dry the contacts with a new cotton bud before use) service centres often dont really do much to phones that are being "serviced", i've known them not even to clean them properly.

ehm..... maybe it is the network.

About 6 to 8 months ago... our T Mobile did some network upgrades which caused a conflict with a whole lot of T68i's. For some reason the new network protocol was not supported by the T68i.

Afaik T Mobile has fixed the network itself..... rumours at that time suggested the same thing occurred small scale in lebanon (altho I have no proof of that) and it sounds like the exact same thing you are now experiencing with meteor.... no signal at all on 1 carrier)

As I'm at work now I cannot retrieve the info but will have a look at it tonight..... hope I can find some english link about the protocol change...... that could be it I think.

Thanks for looking into it. i wouldnt think that its the t68 and the network as a whole since other t68i's work fine. it could be like was said above : after one and a half year, the signal drops?then that would mean pretty low standard coming from SE.
the sim works fine in a nokia 6210 but not in the t68 and another sim (vodafone) this time works in both phones. shrug! even though i love solving problems even hard ones (after some time in some cases) this one is really getting on to me!
and i dont have that much time to spend on it, having projects, studies and huge exams coming.

thanks dudes i appreciate the help given and anymore coming!

T68m/T68i have had quite much problem with the signal... basically it's caused by the shielding can... it's a metal plate between the PCB and the backcover. If the shielding can is of an old version and the screws holding down the PCB isn't tight enough it can cause problem such as dropped calls and sound problems (either it cuts off both outgoing and incoming, or just one of them)...
