> Sending a phone to Celestica (UK)

After asking SE about Service Centers near me for a firmware upgrade, they told me:
"We can clarify there is no service centres within the Bristol area. If you require for handset to be repaired or replaced, the handset would need to be sent to the Sony Ericsson advanced repair centre 'Celestica'."
It all sounds like a lot of hassle to me just for some newer software, but I am still stuck on R1A and I want faster Java. Also I have an old mobile I can use while my T610 is away, so I won't be without a phone or anything.
I'm just wondering who else has sent their phone to Celestica for firmware upgrades (or hardware repairs I guess), and what the turnaround time was? Do you wait days to get your phone back, or is it a week or two? Also, do they make you pay for the return postage?
Cheers - Ed
P.S. Don't bother suggesting that I take it to Cribbs CPW. I've tried that once but they're incompetent and they'll only do it on Saturdays. Besides I want it done at an official SE centre where my warrenty won't be invalidated!

I have had two experiences with celestica and they have both been dreadful. The hiss fix took nearly 3 weeks and a casing replacement took 6 weeks!

I've heard more than 50 individual stories about Celestica and not one of them is good. I wouldn't let my phone anywhere near them

Cheers for that guys, I'm glad I asked now!
It looks like I'll be getting it done unofficially at CPW then. Not really what I wanted but I'm not shy about writing up a little disclaimer and asking CPW to sign it, just to say that they'll cover the cost of repairs/new phone if they knacker it in the process.
I wonder why there aren't any service centres is such a large catchment area as Bristol. As far as know the nearest is in Cardiff!

Send your phone off to Celestica and kiss it goodbye... well at least for several weeks or so, goodluck. _________________SE P900 DONT BELIEVE THE HYPE

Hang on. Ive had numeros s/w upgrades there. Always back within 5 days. They return postage and even gave me a snug ericson box to post it back in. Ive had a replacement aswell. No probs. That did take a little longer. Seems hardware is their downfall
;-) im a bit pissed with se having no service centres past bristol. Its a pain paying special delivery when they release new s/w every 5 mins.
