Hi all!
The 3G operator "3" has blocked the new Motorola A920 so you can only install applications signed by 3. They say they are going to do the samme with the new phones they release...so I guess they'll block the Z1010 when they release the phone in their network.
It doen't make any sense to do so when you buy a phone with Symbian OS, because I WANT TO INSTALL WHAT EVER I WANT on my OS...if the phone crash...well that's my problem.
Any way...I hope the "smart guys" out there fix some kind on crack or hack so you can download to the phone the things you want...
Or...is it maybe a such hack already for the A920??
Does anyone know that?

Aside from tghe fact that I am not so sure you should WANT a hacked phone to begin with..... I am fairly sure you should not be asking for that info on the forum.
Now..... '3' has blocked it to promote their own software and products obviously. For those that want to switch to 3G, I dun think that'll be a large problem. (also I personally believe this block won't last forever anyway)
For the time being, as I see it, it makes little sense getting the phone, hacking it and/or not using it on '3' network.

yeah. lets see how 3 changes it ways when the other 3G operators get started. Thats pretty much why I am waiting so I can see how it all settles down with competition

3 wont last because they have a poor service here in the uk. New se phones have digital rights management (drm). I think the t68i upwards has 4t. It stops u forwarding say a pic or ringtone. Ever seen when the send option isnt there? Its like how u cant erase a pre defined item. Its all about copyright ownership and money at the end of the day.

yes and I'm not surprised. Mobile phones are all about connectivity at the end of the day.
However.... to get '3' software a head start, this block makes sense right now..... not in the future tho

The Z1010 only supports Java, and with web access you could easily download to the phone ( remembering web access is on it's way ), so not much point in blocking that functionality i wouldn't think, besides 3 is not going to be the only place the Z1010 is available so you should be able to get a data suite easily that would transfer the software

The SPV (or SVP or VSP, whatever) OS was locked too by Orange and it got hacked. Don't worry, almost everything by Microsoft gets hacked and they can't really lock the Z1010 like englishpunk said.

Well...if I own a Smart Phone with an operating system like Symbian OS...YES I want to install different applications, and YES I want a hacked version of the phone to be able to install every little application out there I like or I create myself.
What about if you buy a DELL/Conpaq (or some brand you like) but you can only use the standars application that comes with the PC and you can not change nothing? Well...it's exatly the samme thing with a blocked SmartPhone...do you get it now?

However.... lemme try one more time. '3' put on a block as a pure business decision. Obviously tyo give their own software, programs and services a head start. Anybody eager to switch to 3G already must be interested in those services. Otherwise they wouldn't make the switch.
I fully realize that there is a large group of people that would NOT make the switch for the reason you stated.
Now, back to '3'. Clearly they are working on fully implementing theri own program. Once they have done that to their own satisfaction, obviously they will lift the block on 3rd party software to strengthen theri competive position.
I trust this will make you understand the concept? It's the way the go about their business.
And anybody not happy with it should wait with getting 3G until the software issue is resolved.
NOW DO YOU GET IT????
