I was out on my bike last night and crashed. I was fine, but the P800 has a crack on the screen, and the touchscreen doesn't work any more...

What are my options for repair in London? I'm reasonably handy with a screwdriver - is it worth a go myself? Where can I get a replacement screen? The damage won't be covered by warranty I guess.

TIA for any help.

yeah, true enuf... but because my screen was malfunctioning b4 it cracked SE covered it anyway... see what a little whining might do, but I also got a spare p800 phone which was blaclisted from ebay for $150. A new screen is about $130 i hear, so including spare housing... it was a good deal. good luck

After some hunting, I just ordered a screen and a new grey case from Global Mobility. All in with shipping is $226 or £136.

A bit cheaper than the £150 fitted quoted from Fleet Comms in Greenwich, although I'll have to do the job myself. But the case is a bonus, thought I might as well while paying the shipping.

Watched the videos from www.p800.it (http://www.p800.it/Tutorial%20video%20montaggio.htm) and it all looks pretty straightforward.

And I've bought a s/h T20 to take on cycle rides in future...

Lesson learned.

I'll let you all know how I get on.

Don't listen to what the carphone whorehouse says! I'm sure that if you took it to a proper service station for sony phones them they would either do it under the warrenty or for a small fee. This message was posted from a T300

I'm spending my time watching the USPS tracking screen - my P800 bits left LA airport on Friday morning...

Went out and bought two Torx drivers (T6 and T8) needed, and stripped the P800. Pretty easy if you watch those videos, only hard bit was separating the two halves of the case - there's a wee clip you have to unhook. Fiddly. Once inside, it's all pretty foolproof and well designed. Used some canned air to clean all the fluff and hairs out - yeuch!

I've also borrowed a Nokia 3100 from my mate for a week. Tiny, neat wee thing, with the battery life of a heart pacemaker it seems. But - no BT, IR, web browser, camera, MP3s, etc etc etc...

As to the warranty thing - the screen was pretty obviously smashed by an impact. Don't think SE would agree to that. The screen is obviously an expensive part to make - touch screen, colour, pretty big. I've found T68 screens for under £50, P800 are still dear when you can find them.

Snowbear -
My Italian isn't so hot either - but installing games etc is pretty straightforward - P800 apps come in .sis format, which you can install from the USB dock, or download to the phone's memory and install from there. Go to applications, the menu, then install/uninstall. Things like Doom need an emulator as well I believe. I haven't tried Doom, but I did install the SMS Sega Megadrive emulator. These are a bit more complex, but still rely on .sis installation files. Good luck

Edit -I've had a look at the Doom download. You have to install edoom.sis, then download the two .wad files, and put them in the speciified directory - d:\media files\documents\DOOM. You may need a file manager for this - try Qfilemanager or the like. MySymbian.com has this I think.

Wahey! New screen and grey case arrived today. Quick service from Global Mobility, although I did get stung for £28 tax.
Screen is a breeze to fit, and seems clearer and brighter than the old one - probably an illusion.
I've left the grey case for now - it's not a job to rush. Will spend Sunday afternoon swapping...
