I have been using my T610 purchased unlocked/unbranded from Manila for almost 2 weeks now with no problems using my Rogers AT&T sim card for voice (in Vancouver, BC) but I have an issue with text messaging.
I am writing a new TEXT message (not email) and when I press 'continue', rather than asking for the phone number, the phone is asking me for an email address! Can't seem to fix this and haven't found any settings to change SMS preference from email to text another phone.
Also... GPRS FAILED is the message I get when I try to use the top right button. I've got my data account set up through the provider, who can't seem to help (can't tell me what's wrong) and neither can SE tech support or SE customer service!

To check youve got the sms type set to text, go to the text menu (where u get the write new, inbox etc options) then go to the second to last item in the menu which is options. when that menu is open u should see an 'sms type' option. chose that and see what u have selected (it should be text)

as for the gprs problem, double check with your service provider that they have activated gprs on your account, if they have then double check you have the right settings in your phone for your account type. ie if you are on contract then make sure you have the settings for contract gprs as they are different to pay and go ones. your SP and SE SHOULD have gone through this already with you, if they have then I dont know what else to suggest sorry

Data Comm->SMS access-> (set it to GSM)
Messaging->Text->Options->SMS Type->(set it to "Text")

Messaging ->Text -> Options and then there is no SMS Type to be found on my phone... The only options I have within the Options submenu are: Service centres, E-mail gateways, Request reply & Long messages. Is my phone broken?

I don't think it's broken. A customized firmware or SIM maybe. Have you tried it with another SIM?
You should call your mobile operator, and if they can't help - visit a service center.

Have you got a number in the service centre option?

Yes, there is one that was auto-assigned by the sim and the box is checked. Still can't send to a phone number...

seems to be a SIM related problem
ask for a new SIM card, I'm 99% sure
it's a SIM issue

I finally got through to someone that could see the computer screen at the Rogers callcentre and realize that even though it's not a phone purchased from them that it IS possible the problem originates on the provider's end! She saw that there was something on my account that for whatever reason was NOT turned to the correct setting and that's what had been causing my phone to ask for email instead of a phone number. After the setting had been updated, I can now text like a normal human being. (Tried it on my old Nokia 8890 also and now it, too, works)
Still can't seem to get the WAP / GPRS to work though

Thanks, all!

Oh yeah, and if anyone has any idea what to do with these settings:

Primary IP: 208.200.067.150
Primary Port: 9203
Secondary IP: 208.200.067.151
Secondary Port: 9201
APN: goam.com
Username: wapuser1
Password: wap
HomePage: http://mymobilehomepage.rogers.com/

This came from the Rogers website... I've entered most of the settings into my T610 but couldn't find anywhere to put the Primary Port, Secondary IP & Port...
