I had this idea for quite a while now, but I didn't have the time to test it. The thing is that your T61x, T3xx or T68 can be used as a storage device. The procedure is quite simple.

You have to change the extension of the file that you want to store to an extension recognized by the phone (e.g. .mid, .imy, .jpg and so on). You can do this either by adding ".mid" at the end of your file or by deleting the current extension and replacing it with the new one. Send this file to your phone and it will be accepted. Then you can just send it back to any other device (PC, laptop, PDA) and change the extension back to use it properly.

I have tested this with a PDF file compressed with WinRAR and it worked perfectly. I transferred it to my phone then to my girlfriend's laptop and decompressed it there. I worked perfect - no CRC errors at all. Hope some of you might find this useful when you're in a tight spot. Sorry if this has been posted before - I must confess I didn't search for it. I was too excited...

Actually I think thats an interesting find and am surprised that the T610 depends wholly on the file type when accepting a file rather than confirming the file header details etc.

I guess its just a shame, in this case, that the T610 only has 2Mb and more so because I have managed to fill this up and though I keep looking for things I don't use in order to clear room I rarely find anything I can get rid of.

On the other hand you can get these USB 128Mb memory dongles for 40-50 euros these days and thats a much more convenient way to carry data since they require no drivers on windows 2000 and Windows XP.

Useful info though for those with plenty of room, albeit a little bit of a fiddle to get it on the phone, but nice one!

Thanks, masseur! Can you confirm that this also works on the T610? My last posted tip only worked for T310 and T68. It might prove useful when you have no other option of taking some files with you. And the fact that you can use it in conjunction with an archiver is quite fun. This message was posted from a WAP device

I've got an MP3 player that has 32meg built-in memory, and can also use MMC/SD cards. I use it with some 128meg SD cards (which are very cheap by the way) all the time.

unfortunately I cannot confirm on the T610 as I don't use, or even have installed, a RAR compression program (although I do have WINZIP which does read and decompress/derchive such files).

I will certainly give it a go when I get a few moments though!

It should work with any compressor - I used WinRAR because I wanted to test the archive after transferring it back and renaming it to the original filename. It also works without a compressor - I used one because of the best compression option that allows for a smaller size of the file. Just remember this: don't change the filename to 'mpn or you'll never be able to transfer it back. LOL This message was posted from a WAP device

I think your best bet is to use .mid & .thm files.
.jpg & .gif get thumbnailed when recieved
.mpn & .jar get proccessed when recieved
