Does the P800 have a landscape mode that allows you to view the screen horizontally? I know Opera has technology that improves formatting on small screens, but I think it would be so much better to have the increased horizontal screen space.

I guess this feature would have to be part of the OS. Is it supported natively or is there software out there that enables you to do this? (e.g. does Opera have a landscape mode?)

If this is not possible on the P800, can we expect this on the P900 with the new Symbian OS?

Thats stuntrun and MIB but I have not seen anything that allows general use of the P800 in landscape mode like I can do with the ipaq

as far as i remember :

apparently it's a limitation of the operating system ...

text can't be rendered in landscape mode so an application like opera would have to convert all text to graphics to display in landscape mode ...

games such as MIB II can easily be displayed in landscape mode because they don't use a lot of text ...

The other thing related to this is that all the text input functions would have to be rotated 90 degrees as well, so you could actually enter data into whatever application you were using - that sounds real complicated to me! That factor was the clincher that made me believe we won't ever get P800 in "widescreen" mode

It is quite simple. The answer is NO. The developers of Opera told us it was not possible because anyone who uses the p800 in landscape mode would have to render every bit of text as graphics and this is tooo slow. If the developers of opera couldnt do, then no one can. Possibly with a newer os, but so far, NOT POSSIBLE, NOT EVER NEVER EVER. Case closed.

I cant agree with that. Whey the hell then does my catalyst drivers for my 9700pro give me an option to rotate the screen any direction I want? It has nothing to do with rendering text as graphics. Obviously, either the symbian isnt capable of allowing such features, or nobody has designed a piece of software for such rotation. I can program the EEPROM of a simple cheap crap motorola microcontroller to print to the screen sideways, and were talking abount a processor about 20mhz. Then again, we cant expect something as small as our hands to act like a home pc........yet
