The thread below made by fijbert reminded me of an old thread posted by HAZEM @ my-symbian.
the post of hazem was:
This method explains how toCOPY CONTACTS.CDB and SMSmessages ( and their Settings),Emails ( and their Settings)calendar, jotter, (MOST OF YOURDATA) and turn them back after you format your P800...
also how to delete FONTS on Drive C:
well, the procedure is a bit long,
but here we go:
1. First of all, MAKE A FULL BACK UP, in CASE YOU FAILED to FOLLOW EXACTLY THE INSTUCTIONS BELOW.and REstart your P800.
2. Start the program PC FILE MANAGER( u can use a free evaluation copy -download from my-sybmian)
3. again START making a new backup,BUT When you see the P800 saying "backup in Progress" and you see the P800 ICON in your Windows systemTRAY Cancel the Backup. BUT DONT START THE PHONE, LEAVE IT ON THE CRADE AS IT IS.
4. Doing so allows you to USE the PCFile manager to control the P800 and be able to copy what ever u need.
Copy as you wish to the MS DUO CARD or the PC , i copied these
- for contacts, i copied: c:\system\data\contacts\contacts.cdb
- for calendar:C:\Documents\Agenda\Agenda
- for SMS, Copy all Folders and filesunder C:\System\Mail\
- I Copied also the whole directoryC:\Documents (so that i copy it back as it is when i format - this is important also if u have data)
- If there are other application on your Cthat has Data, copy it, and make sure u record and revise all applications in your p800 in case there are data or so not mentioned above. For example"Handy Safe" data ( u can synch. if u dont want to backup) ... etc.
** by the way, you can use a previous backup with ecs extenstion and convert it to .zip, then extract the files above and whatever u need.
5. NOW the BIG STEP: format completely the internal part of yourP800. which like this:
Jog up -> * -> Jog down -> Jog down -> *Jog down -> *
6. Format the intenal Memory so that uwill get your P800 as EXACTLY you bought it.
7. Restart the phone, Cool as came from Factory
8. Repeat steps 3 and 4, but copy the files in point 4. from the memory stick/ oryour PC to the internal memory. THATS IT, YOU RESTORED CONTACTs, SMS,Calendar, and all
your data.
ATTENTION: you will loose some Settings or configurations which i beleieve are minor things make sure to record all before u do all above.
OLA, IF YOU DONT LIKE THE RESULT,SIMPLY RESTORE THE MAIN BACKUP in Step 1
