Was just thinking. Some nice folks here offer making programs that are of use to us. Why not make a simple one that cleans the phone from uninstalled leftovers, temp files and other useless junk?

I've found out that unfortunately there are many of these left behind if you install / uninstall alot of stuff and in general use the phone alot.

Any comments?

Top idea.

Bit of a pain manually doing it and freeing up space.

It sounds like a good idea but can be dangerous or ineffective.

A better option would be for programmers to ensure that absolutely everything is removed when you uninstall their products.

Judging by my experience over the years using Windows based machines, these types of programs are not always effective and sometimes can remove stuff that you don't want removing.

Some of the better ones simply sit in the background watching. Making a log of everyfile that is written to disk or deleted. You then create "check points" in the program. You can then go back to a "check point" and see what files were added and then decide which files you wish to delete manually. This is far safer.

These types of utilities are also good for watching programs to see what/how they install - useful for if you wish to patch a program to offer greater functionality etc.

I agree with the above. I hope that someone can make a program that removes stuff that's safe to remove. That shouldn't be too difficult, checking which folder belongs to what program and whether it's still installed. Of course a confirmation dialogue would be nice just in case

The main problem with the P800 is that the momory for storage uses big cluster sizes and that makes every extra small file or folder take unreasonably much space. After some months of constant use there could be MB's to retrieve! More info and sort of a workaround for this (in danish) here: http://www.p800.dk/p800trick.asp?nummer=22
