if you buy the mobile fone(T610) locked + personalised then contact vodafone to unlock it and they do (think it cost £20) when you go to get you firmware updated will the not put the normal se software if you say when you last got it updated they put on the vodafone stuff by accident because you had a vodafone sim card in

I dont think that will work, i took my T610 to the SE for a firmware upgrade after de-crapping it myself, without a simm card in and it come back re-crapped

Maybe they check the IMEI and when it is registered to Vodafone they upgrade it with vodacrap firmware.
