I like the idea you are suggesting, however I believe the petition has two flaws:

1. You won't get anywhere insulting SE's new product, don't say P900 is a P800 with minor changes, I am sure after the amount they've spent in development for this phone they don't feel the same way.
2. The second paragraph needs rephrasing. Longevity of the phone is what? What you mean is support of the device, by keeping the platform updated, which seems fair. However 8 months in mobile phone years, far exceeds current expectations. I have heard several times CEOs of mobile phone companies say that the lifecycle of the phones today are between 3 months and 6 months. That doens't mean the phone dies after this time, but it is phased out or improved which is exactly what SE has done.

Regards,
Fabrizio

I didn't unsult the P900, it is a good phone just not that different than the P800. I do take your points onboard. However, it is not possible to amend the text to the petition once started, since people have already signed under the original text.

It may not be perfectly worded to suit everyone, but it's in the general area, and hopefully better than nothing.

I guess there is no harm in trying, although I really don't think you will get anywhere.

From what I've read it seems like the P800 doesn't have enough memory to support the new OS and UIQ. Even if it did, I really think would want to concentrate on new products and getting new customers, not giving freebies to existing customers.

I've said this before in other threads, but noone who buys the latest phone expects a free upgrade to the newest model. The industry just does not work like that.

SE should be smart enough to relaise that they should look after their customers, exspecially the customers willing to fork out hundreds of pounds for one of their products (their most expensive product!). These are exactly the same customers who in a year's time will fork out hundreds of pounds again to buy another very expensive SE phone. By leaving them to languish now SE would be doing nothing to show that it cares about its customers.
In every country (Western ones anyway) there are class distinctions made by companies based upon your income and your expenditure. Those people who earn a lot and spend a lot (typically young affluent males) are regarded as the best possble customers any company selling a non-gender/age specific product can target. SE know this and, if they are clever, will do everything they can to attract and keep such customers.
It is people such as ourselves who are able to keep these companies turning a profit and enable the research and development/marketing of such expensive products.

There is plenty of stuff in the larger P900 rom that has nothing to do with UIQ 2.1, and as such it would be possible to have an optimized UIQ 2.1 in the P800.
