Hi,
Backup is not working for me and I was wondering if any one could help. If reads 'Restore failed'.
I WILL GIVE A FREE KEYPAD TO ANYONE who can either tell me how to restore correctly, or who can tell me if you look at the files you have backed up, which are the contacts, and which are the SMS messages. Thank you sooo much for your help and time.
Thanks.

if you re-name the back-up file with a ".zip" extension you can then view and extract the contents. Try this.
If I do qualify for the flip, please give a few £s to charity as I don't need the flip.

All of you, thanks, however unfortunatly I am still having problems, do you know what the messages and contacts files are called, or how to locate them, after changing them to a zip file?
Thanks.

forgive my question, what is exactly the problem? you need to restore contacts and sms only? or the whole backup is not readable by the phone?

Is this what you are after????
1. Locate the backups on your harddrive. It is stored in "C:\Documents and Settings\*user name*\Application Data\Sony Ericsson\backups\*your P800 IMEI*", unless you have changed the path.
2. Open the latest archive using WinRar or a similar program.
3. Navigate through "backup\Internal\system\data".
4. Extract the file names Contacts.cdb. All of your contacts, even the pictures, are stored here. Put it somewhere safe on your harddrive.
5. Start the Backup/Restore program and prepare a full backup of the phone. This will give you enough time to complete the following task.
6. Allow the phone to Restart.
7. When the phone goes "Backup - Backup in progress", use Epocware's PC File Manager to navigate the P800 to "c:\system\data" and paste in the Contacts.cdb file you extracted earlier. This can only be done when the phone isn't operating, since the file is locked under normal circumstances. That's why you have to enter the Backup mode...
8. Wait for the backup to finish and restart your phone. All your contacts are back.

If you need to replace only the contacts.db and the mail folder to the telephone you will find that these files are locked (in use). Start a restore and take the telephone off the sync station before any files are restored. Cancel the restore on the computer. Replace the telephone and use Epoc File manager to restore the now un-locked files. Restart the backup program and the telephone will switch off again. Please be careful when using this method.
