I can store 5 SMS messages on my sim card, but my phone memory is always 0% full. How can I store sent or received messages in my phones memory so I don't keep getting `sim card full` error messages?

Thats very strange because my T610 always stores them in the phone and they can only get to the sim if I specifically move them to the SIM archive.
I cannot see any option that specifies where you want the messages to go so the fact that yours go direct to SIM is very strange, unless your phone memory is full perhaps and so the phone has no choice except to put them on SIM?

Strange.
Well, I've put a lot of games on it but i have a few hundred k spare. Unless the memory is split up in some strange way and the sms storage doesn't come out of the games memory storage.
I have a new phone (only got it the other week) but its a r1 firmware. Going to have to get that upgraded at some point soon. Hopefully I won't get told that i can't have that done for free if there's nothing wrong with it. Then again, I've had the odd crash when I've been online.

It also seems odd that you can only store 5 messages on your SIM. Mine can store 20.

It's a SIM i've had since 1997. Are newer ones any different? It's always worked ok. My last phone (siemens mt50) let me store 5 on the sim and 20 in the phone.
This phone is 5 and 0!! That's not fair!

Maybe newer ones have a greater capacity. As masseur said though the phone should be able to store more, I think it's 150.

How do they get stored on the phone? Does the phone just stick them there when the SIM memory is full, or do you have to move them manually after they arrive?

Nope they just go straight onto the phone, even when I've got memory free on the SIM. As with masseur I can only store on the SIM if I choose to.

Firstly, SMS are not kept in the user/dynamic memory (2 meg). They have their own memory space.
T610 saves SMS only to phone memory. In order to save the message to the SIM card, you have to move it to "archive" (after it has been recieved)

This just isn't the case with my phone. It's *only* using the SIM card, and only letting more store 5 messages. I can find no options relating to this on my phone's menus or online anywhere.
Any ideas how I can check how much memory I am using/have free (in the area used to store SMSes?)
