I just bought an (SigmaTel) 'USB IrDA adapter' so I can transfer pictures to and from my cell phone (sony ericsson T300), but i don't know how to actually get the transferring going. When I transfer from the phone, I activate the IR and send via IR, but it always says 'connection failed; no device found'. And I have no idea where to start to transfer from the PC.
I installed the adapter correctly and the computer (running xp) is able to detect it. So is there any software that i need in order to use the IrDA??
I read in some forums that you should be able to send a file from a comp by just right clicking > send to > another device, but i don't have anything like that. And also, there's no icon on the task tray for transferring purposes.

First turn on IR on the phone and place it within range of the IR adaptor of your pc.
You don't mention which windows operating system you re using but the principal is much the same since windows 98.
The PC will then give a message indicating another device is in range and at that point you can right click your file in windows explorer and choose send to and you will now find somethnig like "a nearby computer" etc...
To transfer from the phone to the pc just find the item you want to send and choose send and the via infrared and then immediately place the phone near the PC IR adaptor and the item will be received by the pc.

hi masseur,
i have a MA 620 USB infrared adaptor. my winxp can detect it but it doesnt offer the option of "send to" in the windows explorer when i right-click even though i place it right in front of it.
however, i could transfer jpeg and ringtones (but not .thm files as its not in the program option) to my t610 using the software provided when i bought the device but not the other way round.
any idea what's wrong?

No idea as I have never used that one, however,
here is the homepage for that product and it claims to be standard IR so it should work.
Maybe you can check through that page for some clues to make it work.

I have installed and used the BAFO BF120 on half a dozen computers running from 98 to XP with no problem whatsoever, including multiple IR devices on the same PC You may need to go into device manager to select the right kind of transceriver for the IR adapter, depending on what driver version you use.

i'm still having trouble transferring files using the IrDA adapter b/w my computer and phone. My comp is running Windows XP, I installed the driver and it seems ok, but i still can't get the adapter activated. Is the adapter suppose to come with any software in order for any transferring to be possible??
Someone mentioned you may need to select the right type of transceiver for the IR adapter. I'm using Vishray 6101E which is the default. I dunno if it matters, but the 'Min Turn-Around Time' and 'Speed Enable' values are also set as default. But I've tried playing around with other transceiver type but I still dont have any luck.
