Looks like Orange will be getting the first P900's in the UK.

Now I have never brought a phone form Orange.

My question is, if we buy the P900 from them, will the phone be too new for anyone to have the codes/cables to unlock the phone for use on all networks.

Or is it a case of calling Orange, paying a fee and them doing it.

Thanks in advance.

My advice is to arrange to buy the phone unlocked from them, as i have heard this can be done at the counter, i can't give proof, but i'm sure its been done & i have read it, although it may have been because the guy was a good friend of the staff or something.

Don't risk get it unlock from 3rd party/ high street phoneshop as they don't usually have the proper software for and you'll risk your phone being crash at a later date. I know someone with this nightmare and I don't work for Orange fyi.

My advice is that request the unlock code from Orange and an engineer from unlock dept will get back to you in 3-4 days even weekends based on my experience when I unlock my Orange T610 PAYG. This is done by tapping in a combination codes generated by Orange and it cost 20 pounds.

Good advice, but my post DID mean to have it properly unlocked by Orange, but if you get it done BEFORE you hand over the money, its more likely,
A, they will do it,
B, you will be able to get out of paying £20.

So in review,

Could I buy a phone from Orange ON A CONTRACT, and then get it unlocked by Orange and use it on my other networks....

Check with Orange & get a name of the person you speak to & the hours they work, because they you may need to quote them,
BUT by FAR the best thing is to go to a shop, tell them your request (a contract with an unlocked phone) & say as soon as they can provide it you will go ahead, then when you buy it, take two different network sims with you, test it before handing over the dosh.

Worst thing can happen is they could say NO.

WHereever you buy it from you know that companies will begin to unlock them for £20-£30 pounds within a week or two at the max.

For those thinking to buy it from Orange...remember you have to pay off the one year contract before they unlock it for £20! So that minimum of £180 or more depending on which tariff your on.

I have been looking at the XDA2, great product.

This is a real contender for the P900....

Don't know if Orange UK sell locked phones, but Orange SK sell unlocked phones even for contract. This message was posted from a T300
