> Why mp3? P800!
Bookmark topic
According to the swedish magazine Mobil and other sources on the net, I've learned that the Sony Ericsson P800 can play mp3's!
But, how many mp3's can a phone with only 12 mb available, and no expansion hold? I can see it now.. hmm.. should I take with me the word-documents I need for work, or the newest song from [place your favorite artist here] with me??
This is the reason I use mp3-players that can be expanded (like eg HPM-10). Having owned the SL45 (now SL45i) for a long time, I know that having a 32 mb card just doesn't cut it for me. That's why I have two 64 mb MMC-cards which I use with my SL45i and HPM-10 (togheter with my T68m).
I can't imagine how I could live with only 12 mb free for both mp3's, word & excel documents, contact & adress-lists, pictures and so on! Why give the phone an mp3-function, but at the same time not giving us an option of actually making a use of it?
Anyone have thoughts on this?

There was rumor that P800 has SONY Memory Stick insertion on the side?? Maybe that's the answer to your concern!
Can anyone confirm the Memory Stick part??

I've heared that it's a false rumour, but I could be wrong! It's strange that noone have mentioned it yet, if it's true that the phone uses Sony memory-sticks!

It just doesn't make sense to have an integrated mp3-player in the phone and only 12 mb memory free, and no option for expansion! Just makes me wonder why they implemented mp3 in the first place, when you can't actually make a use of it!?

I totally agrre with you! If they are going to release P800 and keeping in mind they are SonyEricsson now and sony is the leader in memory stick they should do it properly!

make use of sony's technology! Please if you are going to do it then do it right! MEMORY STICK AND P800 would be nice!

Strange why noone here have thought about/mentioned this yet! It crossed my mind a few days ago, but I thought someone else allready had made a post about this, since it's so obvious! But I have not seen such a post yet, so I felt the need to mention my thoughts on this!
I think that SE makes a mistake if they launch the P800 without expansion-abilities and a mere 12 mb available for mp3's, documents, contact- & adress-lists and so on! Sony has the memory-stick technology, why not use it?

My only thought that can explain this is that the P800 was planned and designed by Ericsson before Sony Ericsson made their joint venture! Otherwise, no memory-expansion makes any sense.
They'll probably make a P800i in a few months after the launch of the P800, with the expansion built-in! And the owners of the P800 will have a good time complaining in these forums! Ahh.. what would we have to discuss here if it weren't for the intelligent marketing of Sony Ericsson! This is not based on facts of course, just a funny thought!

Escobar, I think that SonyEricsson should've thought about this. The P800 prototype shown at Cebit doesn't seem to have Memory Stick expansion but maybe the final product being released in 4th quarter will have some kind of expansion. Who knows? You can email SonyEricsson about this and "tip" them off..

I actually think I'll do that, but I bet they've allready thought about it! Or at least will think about it! Because if they don't, I think they will make a mistake in releasing the phone without any form of expansion!

I thought there was some slot in the phone in the various pictures shown a long time back. At the time people were speculating that this was a Mem Stick slot, but it looked too small.
But who is to say Sony won't have a modified MemStick compatible only with the p800 (smaller than the normal stick). This way the p800 has the memory upgrade, and Sony could charge even more for the modified stick over the plain old memory stick we all know and love *cough*
