So whats up with SE nowadays
To me it looks like SE are in for some really rough weather in the near future - almost all other brands are releasing phones these days with better features, more memory, better screens etc. than the comparitive SE phones, and I dont really see SE showing anything to strike back with. At the moment it seems like the SE releases are all lacking behind and personally I seriously doubt they will have new models to seriously compete whithin the next few months. I am a litle dissapointed and baffled at the poor releases from SE lately, almost everyone being nothing but minor updates of present phones not really adding much of anything but some new designs.
Look at moto v500 or samsung e700 compared to Z600, z600 being nothing more than a clamshell version of T610 with more or less the same specs. Look at this thread and see how the v500 at 50$ less beat the z600 in every possible way.

Or the T630 - just a T610 with another design (not even a very good one) + a bit better screen
Or the P900 - just a minor update of the P800
No new models really worth mentioning for their great improvements in features.
And please dont taunt me with useless nonsupported roumors about T650 and other yet notpresented models - these are all just guesswork - I want facts - not some hyper roumors created to try and make me wait for the next super SE phone.
So whats up doc ? - were you to busy sniffing glue, or did the respect you gained for making the P800, or the succes in marketshares youve had rescently with T610 make you fall asleep and think we'd all be happy with that forever ?

i think what you are saying is somewhat true, but think about it like this:
sure, the new models aren't anything great, no big improvements besides a few specs (screens, software updates, an a new shell), but what S.E. is doing TOTALLY makes sense, just hear me out.
1.) S.E. has been cutting into the U.S. market like they haven't seen $$ in 1000 years! They have gained larged contracts with T-Mobile, ATT, and Cingular. If you see any ads from these companies, you'll notice S.E. phones, and great deals on S.E. phones. S.E. is doing what Nokia did to Ericsson and Motorolla. S.E. is going after CONTRACTS! with contracts come $$ and a larger user base. instead of seeing everyone with bricks, you'll see stylish S.E. devices.
2.) what do you do with more $$? you sit back, do research/development, and come out with technologies and features like MMS (which the t68i pioneered), built in bluetooth (r520/t39), and revolutionary accessories (hpm 10, hpr-10/11/20 not to meantion their bluetooth sets).
3.) in the end, S.E. is going to output another t68i fenom, which will blow the competition out again. it just takes a good 2-3 year cycle. but they'll do it, watch.

Well you've hit the nail on the head m8, even though i am going to get another SE (P900 model) i agree that their phones are not as impressive as some other manufacturers are becoming. TIME TO WAKE UP SE THINGS ARE MOVING ON SWIFTLY!

My question is:
What are those non-SE models with new features that the actual SE phones don't have??
Maybe SE is not going to reveal any new phone with a lot of improvements, but actually the SE phones are at the top-tech phones, I think.
Other brands are just developing a lot of phones that are just positioning "near" SE phones...
So... tell... what phones are better than the T610 (with better screen, T630, perfect), and P900? Sincerely, I don't know.

Well, anyone who moans about the companies products then buys an SE phone is not voting with their feet.
Most of the other companies products are variations on SE phones if you ask me.

you might be right in these observations, they make sence and I cant argue against them - but from my point of view that 3year cycle does not come in the near future, because SE are not showing anything these days that can hold its ground. This means that from now till then or atleast the nearest future, I cant really find anything at SE that I would like to buy to replace my T310/T610/P800, and find my self looking more and more to the competitors products. I bet you that Im not the only SE customer doing so at the moment - which means 1. they lose trusted SE customers, 2. they wont gain many new customers either. Untill the next "revolution" if it ever comes.

Well, if specs are all that mattered... Nokia should've been dead a LONG time ago.
Motorola has always been pretty good with features...but lets face it... they've always sucked with their interface.
And like it or not... the success of a phone or phone manufacturer has very little to do with the features they really offer... other wise SE would be #1 ... the P900 may not be a big jump over the P800... but the P800 is still the only successful hybrid. The others may have hybrids with better screens... or better something-else... but the P800 wins in over-all performance, UI, battery life, and balance of size vs. screen. Who cares if someone else HAD a better screen... if the thing only lasted 10 hours... that's kinda useless.
I've seen a lot of others offering 3G stuff (Motorola) ... but come on... with short battery life, or limited service? That's not really considered a main production run... those are prototypes...even if they are available to the public.
Example: Just cuz Iridium offered the latest satellite technology... doesn't mean it was a good idea at the time. (Look where they are now?) Offering technology before its time is a bad idea.

has learned to hold back on their technology, which I feel is a good marketing strategy... they we're killing themselves in the past as Ericsson..they'd always show off everything they could do long before the market was ready for it, or before the technology was refined enough for the general public. I remember the earliest attempts with Bluetooth... back in 1998... people were begging for it... but the technology wasn't quite ready... it did more damage back then since it made people impatient.

Youve got it backwards m8 - Im not moaning about the companys products and then buying an SE phone.
I bought the SE phones and THEN now moan about the new product not holding up to the competitors
Perhaps if you read my first post again - you might read it correctly

What planet are you living on ?? - certainly not the same I am if you think other brands are only "near" se phones - and none has better features. Or better screen than the T630. You really need to read up on the phones being released lately from other brands. Try reading the thread about the v500 versus the z600 that I pointed out in my first post.
v500: 5mb memory, 176x220 TFT screen, 640x480, mp3 and wave ringtones, quadband, at 50$ less than the z600
e700: 6mb memory bla bla bla
etc.
etc.
Take your pick amongst other brands.

Just cause the P800/900 is the best in its class - and it is - I allready have one - that is about the smallest part of the entire SE portfolie, lets face it, most buyers dont buy the P800/P900 but the smaller cheaper phones. Like it or not SE are getting their asses kicked in features these days in these phones. Even at prices below that of SE phones.
-------------------------------------------------
I base my buyingdescission first and foremost on specs to a large extent - where do I get most for my money - then on design and reputation. But I guess there will always be the biased fanatics that have no objective mind of their own - but simply base their descisions on a brandname because they have always done so - these are the same people who drives the same brand of car their entire life or have nothing but biased rubbish to reply to an objective unbiased thread that simply point out the obvious - hoping that someone might reveil something to prove me wrong
