info:
The T630 can automatically enlarge pictures to VGA size (480 x 640 pixels). Software included in the phone recalculates picture size - without forgoing quality.
WITHOUT FORGOTING QUALITY !!! - is this a truth?

Think many people interpretes this information in wrong way. You may get VGA size of the picture by provided software, but not VGA quality which is a big
difference. I believe many people hope for the latter
as well.

It doesn't loose quality, but you will not get the VGA quality, you still get the original quality the picture was taken at.
JPEG compression is a lossfull compression. Each time you encode JPEG you loose quality, so:
Scenario 1: Enlarge picture on the PC
Camera -> raw image -> jpeg (quality loss) -> resize (magnifies faults from previous JPEG encode) -> jpeg (quality loss)
Scenario 2: T630 automatically resizes picture to VGA:
Camera -> raw image -> resize -> jpeg (quality loss)
Additionaly, when you magnify a JPEG image, you also magnify all the faults caused by the previous JPEG compression, which is not desireble.
Resizing the image to a larger size does not cause quality loss, but does magnify all the faults, so it's not the same as taking the actual picture at a VGA resolution (you will have much less detail). We had a discussion about this somewhere, I am sure masseur can find it

Totally right. The extra 'feature' in the 630 is a gimmick.
To generate a larger number of pixels, you can't just copy existing pixels. You need to actually create new ones, by looking at neighbouring pixels and trying to predict what the space between them would look like. This process is called interpolation. The simplest interpolation routine is a simple average of pixels surrounding the new pixel. Much more sophisticated interpolation routines take into account closer and further pixels, giving more weight to nearer pixels, and less to ones further away. As you may imagine, this is a computationally intense task. I would much rather take the native resolution afforded by the camera, and let some good interpolation routine (such as that in Photoshop 7, for example), expand the picture rather than a crummy routine that has to be limited by the processing power available in the phone's processor.
In general, any interpolation routines will fail where the change across pixels is sharp: at edges, for example. So it you take the picture of a setting sun with pink clouds or something like that, then the interpolation may work very well. On the other hand, someone's face may not look all that great after inserting interpolated pixels...
