Ok folks. I think my P800 is whacked. I was jogging yesterday w/ the headset on and listening to some oggs when it suddenly got louder. When I looked at my phone, it made a call somehow and it's still online (maybe I accidentally pressed something) so I hang up (online for 6:52 mins) but my audio was still loud (so ok I thought to myself no big deal)
Later on after I've removed the headset I decided to put it back but alas I no longer see the "Handsfree" message that usually pops up when I put it in. That might explain why the audio suddenly got loud when using the headset. I can no longer use the button from the headset to voice dial either (you know when you depress the button it makes a beep? It no longer beeps)
So my question now is: Has anyone encountered something like this? What can I do aside from bring it back to the retailer where I bought it from? Is there a way to know the current mode of my phone to verify if it's in the handfree or handheld mode? Haven't tried doing a master reset/formatting the internal drive yet. I'm hoping maybe I don't have to go to that extreme but I'll do that anyway if my only choice is I have to take it to the shop for repairs

Sorry to dissapoint you, but it does look like a hardware prob.
So unless you have friends who have p800s you can test your headset on, it's probably your phone and the shop is simply the best place to go.

ok... so I finally found the time to walk to the retail shop where I bought my precious P800 and tested my P800 again if the problem still persists and it does.
When I finally got there I was advised to go to the other shop because it may take two weeks for them in case they have to pull out my unit (the other shop is walking distance from their location too... Actually I would pass by the other shop before I arrive to the shop where I bought my P800)
So off I went to the other shop and waited for the other floors to open and when I finally got to the shop and told them my problem and inserted the headset.... voila it works again (freakin P800, it didn't want to be left there w/ strangers. heheheh) I still left my phone anyway for a firmware upgrade (still have R2D)
Very odd though. For two days the handsfree mode wouldn't work but earlier it finally did.

Ahhhh. This is getting to be a drag. What should have been an easy firmware update is now turning to something else. I went back to get my phone but they told me the phone isn't responding to the update so they told me to call back 3-5 days. I called them on the third day and again told me that the phone isn't responding to the update so they are transferring it to their head office to have it looked at which is another 3-5 days starting Monday. Grrr.
Anyone know of a sure way to resuscitate a P800?
