Unfortunately AOL use a proprietery protocol for its email system. They don't uses POP3/SMTP or any other "standard" protocol. I've been trying for years to get outlook on my PC to access my AOL mailboxes. The only way I've found is to use a third party app such as enetbot, which translates the web based AOLmail found at aol.com/aol.co.uk etc into the POP3/SMTP protocol. So unless there is a similar program written for symbian or java we're all stuck paying to use the aol mobile service
hope this helps...
Before anyone tells me to ditch aol I've had the email address on it for 7 years now and don't fancy updating all my contacts with a new one

not likely.

AOL says they have not received enough feedback from customers requesting this capability to justify providing it to their customers.

I have just been having a look thru my aol and it appears the aol mobile service doesn't cost anything extra. I could be wrong though

You can set up wap access to your email buddy list etc by typing the keyword 'wap' in the aol browser. I set this service up sometime but don't remember doing it and can't find the wap link now, so can't comment on the quality of the service, but its got to be worth looking at if you're desperate to check out your aol mailboxes on the go.
