I am British but I have recently moved to China and have been trying to get my p800 unlocked from Orange.

The networks in China do not lock their phones so there are no shops that offer unlocking like in the UK. In fact most of the shops I've been to haven't even heard of locking phones to a certain network and quickly dismiss me as a foreign idiot who doesn't know what he's talking about.

I have tried to remote unlock my phone using the Sony Ericsson Logger software available from many online shops, but it simply won't work. I have a T28 data cable that I'm sure works (I used it to unlock a T68i recently) and have followed all of the instructions perfectly. The software just won't recognise my p800 though. I recognizes my T68i so I know I am using the right comm ports etc, but when I connect it to my p800 it just doesn't register and the p800 starts up as usual (and gets as far as the screen that tells me to insert a sim).

COuld there be something wrong with my phone, or could it be one of the settings that I have changed somewhere in the phone's control panel?

I just don't understand why it won't work. I've tried two different T28 cables on about 10 different PCs (running win98/xp), but nothing happens.

Has anyone had a similar experience.

I would really appreciate some help on this.

thanks

Can't you ask Orange UK to unlock? This message was posted from a R520

I managed to unlock my P800 using a T28 data cable and a win98 SE machine. I used two unlock companies as one did not work. Can't remember which one worked but I found this site to have a good explanation of the steps. I will check my emails on Friday (when I am back home) and let you know who I used.

Did a ordinary data cable solve this for you? I invested in a service cable which works properly, but I never could get it to work with a standard data cable

I used a cable called "T28 data cable" but it was described as suitable for unlocking. The web site I referred to also seels this type of cable. I will locate the web site from where I obtained the s/w for generating the unlocking codes.
